As is known, the way of linguistic study changed in the second half of the 20th century, especially since the 80s. It shifted from studying static language to studying dynamic language, language in use. Scholars began to pay more attention to communicative function of language, especially to the study of text. In former Soviet Union, characteristics of scientific writings were being further studied in 1960s and 70s. Since the 80s, scholars began to study text.
