Prospective memory refers to the memory of what will happen in the future. The conception of prospective memory exceeded the scope of memory' s definition by traditional psychology, and extended the field of memory research. There are three types of prospective memory: event-based prospective memory, time- based prospective memory and activity-based prospective memory. After the conception of prospective memory was established, it got the focus of many researchers and grows fast. However, till now, there are many conflicts among the researches of prospective memory' s cognitive mechanisms. Researchers have not got an agreement on whether completing the tasks of prospective memory is based on controlled processing or automatic processing. Auto-activation theory and Attention +Search theory consider prospective memory is based on automatic processing, while Smith' s Multinomial Process Tree Model use controlled processing to explain it. And others hold a compromising view, which hold that there are both automatic processing and controlled processing in it. In our opinion, the key point of to answer this question is to determine attention resource' s role in completing tasks of prospective memory. Till now there is no such research on attention resource' s role in completing tasks of prospective memory. Based on former research we used a serious of factors to control the use of attention in completing tasks of prospective memory. In doing so, we understand the role of attention in completing tasks of prospective memory. There are six experiments in the current research. In experiment one we explored attention resource's effect on prospective memory in earlyprocess stage. In experiment two to four, we explored the how the extent of attention separation affect the performance of tasks of prospective memory. In experiment five and six we investigated childrens attention resource' s effect on the transition from on-going task to prospective memory task. We drew the conclusions:1. The attention processs was found in early stage of prospective memory process.2. The distribution of attention resource and the divsion of attention resource were significant affected the process of'prospective memory.3. The limited capability of attention rsesource was significant affected the processs of prospective memory.
