Abstract/Summary:
As various articles used for expressing praying for blessing, praying to gods to avert a misfortune and praising, etc.the Dunhuang Praying Texts are stored in documents, the grotto-notes and silk paintings, streamers, silk fabrics in Dunhuang. They are sealed up for keeping in the grottos, or buried underground for over 1,000 years, but no modification has been done by anyone during this period. A large number of raw linguistic materials are saved there, so they play a fatal role in linguistic study.There are huge amount of words in allusions, abundant religious terms (they stemmed from various classics of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism) and live spoken words and vulgarisms appeared at that time in the Dunhuang Praying Texts, make them have characteristics that both prose and poem, Chinese and Sanskrit, classical Chinese and Vernacular were alternated in the contexts, not only are they elegant but also popular, being glamorous particularly.The study about words and phrases in Dunhuang documents was concentrated on the Pien-wen in recent years , however,few has undertaken overall and systematical study on the vocabulary of the Praying Texts,in which affluent content, considerable quantity and more value of study are available . So there is a very large space in the study of vocabulary of the Praying Texts.In this thesis, an overall and systematic study about the vocabulary of the Dunhuang Praying Texts is undertaken for the first time. It has analyzed the characteristics that how to form the vocabulary of the texts, has dug up the classical Chinese words and phrases, Buddhist terms and classical terms of Confucianism and Taoism, etc. in the vocabulary of the texts. It has also explored and interpreted a set of neologisms and new senses appeared in the texts;Extending on the basis of dissecting a sparrow, it then has explored and interpreted a set of spoken words and idioms in the texts;And has demonstrated that the linguistic materials of the Praying Texts had provided huge value in the study about vocabulary of dynastic history .It has represented the forming way, the ideogram's characteristics and the impact on the development of Chinese vocabulary, what are special in the words with two syllables of the Praying Texts;Has elucidated the ideogram's characteristic of the words with two syllables in side by side type ,and its significance in lexeme study especially,through perspective of the explanation of ideogram's characteristics of the words with two syllables which have "the same morpheme but different word order" ,and ,through perspective of the words with two syllables which have been added affixes,the word building morphemes which are abbreviated by groups of polysyllabic words .It has interpreted circumbendibus words which mean "Death" in the texts , and has dug for the original lexeme of the circumbendibus words;Hasexpounded the culture connotation of the circumbendibus words;And as is pointed , the language in the Praying texts has positive impact on the foundation of spoken literature vocabulary. Besides the static description for the words and phrases in the Dunhuang Praying Texts, it has discussed the origin of the words and phrases, the evolutional ways and processes of the acceptations, historically. Meanwhile, study on some function words including adverbs, prepositions, and conjunctions in the Praying Texts is undertaken.
