The Xiao's Clan ever lived in Lanling Country, Donghan, Shan Dong Province, Later migrated to the South of the Chang Jiang River and settled down in the south of Lan Ling Country where the government of Dong Jing Dynasty located. The Xiao's rised from the ranks, and many of their members served in the army, which made them build a close relationship with the army-men of the North government In the prosperity of the Clan, Queen of Xiao, Xiao Si Hua and Xiao Dao Cheng were very important figures, And Xiao Dao Cheng took the advantage of the political decay of Song Dynasty and successive rebellion, coupled with his remarkable achievement, and made the Xiaos the empery family. Then the great changes took place in the Xiaos Clan, and her members began to march toward the literature. Xiao Yan also rised from the ranks, but had a high lever of literary appreciation. With the success in millitary fighting and political ranking, his family members developed the good habit of active learning and self-encouragement, and formed the overall superiority in literature, which showed up in the middle of Ling Dynasty. And this period was the most shriving pan of the Xiaos. But the rebellion of Hou Jing destructed the Xiao's ruling status within five years, the majority of members of the Clan died from the war hunger and fatigue. And the upheaval in Jiang Ling was the mark of the Xiao's actual reigning. However, the Xiaos Clan was one of the few clans who established two dynasties in history. Her temporary fate with 108 years of history was typical in that period, and epitom of the development of big families in South Dynasty. The end of the Xiaos Clan was mainly due to their political decay, somewhat relating to the conflicting historical situation between South and North Dynasty, which caused the ruling situation they faced to be more complicated than that of the unity. As in literature, the Xiaos Clan manifested their peculiarity in many ways. And her member's thought were very complex. It was supposed that they embraced the doctrines of Taoism before the migration, then the teachings of Buddhism penetrated into their idea system. In Qi and Liang Dynasty, the Xiao's members believed in Buddhism in a big way. It was their absorption of Confuctian and Taoism that result in the complexity of their thoughts, but due to their special social status and perticuliar living environment, they were always involved in the vortex of cruel political struggling, which prevented their belief of Buddhism from being realized in their lives, just as embellishment of their self-possession. To Xiao Yan, Buddhism was a tool to govern the country.Because of their humble family background, weak family literary foundation and belief, coupled with special fashion of South Dynasty, they developed their peculiar literature style, which was beautiful and gentle. And in such a society with rigid hierarchy, both their humble history and the status, contributed to peculiar psychology. But in the contending for hegemony of literature, their high social main-steam literature, and their literary gift and accomplishment made them the real leader in the literature world at that time. The Xiaos were productive. They expressed their views on some current key issues to change the previous style and achieve the "gentleness" of their articals. However, they didn't use correct ways to express their feelings, so the article styles was not changed too much, which especially embodied in the pomes. For the great gap between their real life and their literary dream, there existed obvious disagreement between their products and ideas. As to the practice, the Xiaos were very prolific. They created many papers about poem, fugue and rhymical prose style and also changed the style of them. For example, in the creation of poem, the palace poem became the most typical form. Here we accepted the traditional attitude towards the palace poem, holding that it included the blue creation in poem , fugue and rhymical prose style. The palace poem developed a writing school in a full sense. In a word, the Xiaos were the leaders of the new style, but not the inventors. The rebellion oh Hou Jing changed the Xiaos lives and their literary writing greatly. After the rebellion, instead of confining their writing to the romantic things, they paid more attention to description of the war and their wrath on it, which made their writing more mature and realistic. Then the writing style of Liang Dynasty changed, which implied the beginning of the cultural transformation of the late Liang, which played a transitional role and symbolized the steps of Chinese literature toward Tang Dynasty. As for the status and influence the Xiaos had in the history and their literary contribution to Chinese literature, our assessment in mired and this assessment is based on the whole Clan not on a certain member.
