The precondition of Zhiqing Literature (Literary Works written by Zhiqing and about Zhiqing) was the Rustication Movement. The Rustication Movement was unique in human's history, through which we can see the unusual relation between the city and the country in China, and which showed that China was in a dilemma. In Part One the divided state of the city and the country, the arising of the Rustication Movement, and the relation between them and Zhiqing Literature were discussed. In Part Two, Zhiqing literary works published between the year 1966 and 1986 were reviewed, several important works were analyzed from the point of view of the city-country-narrative. My main point is that because China was in the pursuit of both socialism and modernization during the Cultural Revolution, Chinese people realized the divided state of the city and the country; they made great efforts to change it. And Zhiqing Literature participated in that struggle.Because CCP gave up the socialist project while persisted only in modernization after the Cultural Revolution, Chinese modernity lost its characteristics of anti-modernity. So the narrative about the city and the country in Zhiqing Literary works in the New Period became similar to those of western. But as Zhiqing authors were once in country, their rural experience would certainly affect their works.
