The problem of the Han people's immigration to Yunnan is a main subject of the historical studies about Yunnan in the Ming Dynasty. On the basis of previous researches, the author, by exploring historical material and new investigative ways, makes a systematic study and discusses in detail the Han people's immigration to Yunnan, mingling with Yunnan aboriginal and influence on the social history of Yunnan.In the thesis the author carefully and particularly studies the time and ways of the arrival of the Han troops and researches the organization form and military institution of army migration. The author makes it clear that the population of first army migration to Yunnan is about 800,000, serving as the main component of the Han immigrants. Most of them entered Yunnan in the early days of the Ming Dynasty. They resided and distributed here in the way of garrison troops, opening up wasteland and growing food grains. The second kind of immigration was the exile of criminals to Yunnan. There was a large population of this type during the Ming dynasty. The author also considers that the businessmen were conscribed in large numbers as farmers and moved to Yunnan to open up wasteland and grow food grains.
