This paper considers the works by Franz Kafka as a whole, including his novels, essays, dairies and letters. So, the normal critical methods which attaching themselves to the sociology, psychology, religion or biography and so on are discarded in this paper. All these methods seek the literary property from the outside of the literature. Studying the prospect of the whole works by Kafka, we must analyze not only each single work, but also the contact between the different works and the relationship in the author's idea and his artistic style.This paper tries to study the literary property of the works by Kafka in a phenomenological point of view. The integration of the whole works is the important critical principle, and the sociological, psychological, structural methods are utilized sufficiently and constituted effectively.Ontology is the point of both the departure and the destination in this paper. What Kafka had thought was the original existence of the person, the thing and the world. Person wasn't considered as the heart of the world, and he was treated as equals as the thing.Human and his surroundings are the principal aspects in Kafka's works. Kafka had sharp eyes and he could see through the daily life to, find the deep-concealed truth. His works are different to the ancient myths or fairy tales which isolated from the daily-life, and his works are different to the modern literature which changing the daily-life arbitrarily. Kafka's works are the thinking of the human and his Being.The first chapter discusses the artistic characteristics on the relationship of the human and his surroundings. Kafka was infatuated with the labyrinth, which shaped his thinking way and his works' structural pattern. Human and his surroundings are changing and influencing with each other constantly. The second chapter discusses person's comprehension in an instantaneous time. In this instantaneous time, person's surroundings changed fiercely. He came out of his normal daily-life and began to seek the truth of Being.The third chapter reveals person's sentiments such as loneliness, anxiety, fear and sin, discusses the important questions such as freedom, death and world order. The establishment of one's self-consciousness is the main idea in this chapter.The fourth chapter discusses Kafka's outlook on art and literature. The factor of Body is the intermediary between the self-tyrannized consciousness and article imagination. The fifth chapter discusses the language style, including the choosing of the words and phrases, the using of the word order in a sentence. The last chapter sums up the feature of Kafka's works and how can the reader find the crevice of his works to enter into his world.Kafka's works conveyed his concerning for the human and his destiny, his thinking about the function of the art and literature.
