Taojiazhai graveyard is situated in the middle-up stream part of HuangShui valley. Geographically, Hehuang area is the transition of Central Plain area and Outlying Minority area. It is also the contiguous areas of Huangtu plateau and Qingzang Plateau. According to the historical materials, This place is the dwelling of the ancient Qiang people before Qing and Han Dynasties. During Wu-ti period, the government of Western Han Dynasty began to make the people move to Hehuang area and set up public farmland. The eastern part of Qinghai is gradually brought into the ruling range of the dynasties in the Central Plains. Owing to the large number of Han population migration and the centralized rule of Central Plains, it must bring some serious influence to the local inhabitants and inhabited culture. So, the research that is about the problem of ancient residents race belonging and clan belonging in Taojiazhai graveyard seems quite important.This dissertation, sum total of eight chapters, is based on research on human skeletons excavated from the Taojiazhai graveyard, Xining City, Qinghai Province. The research methods include skeleton measurement, ethnology, pathology and statistics.Chapterâ… ExordiumIn this chapter, give a brief introduction of the natural geographical location of Taojiazhai, and give a brief description of the geographical and historical background of this area in Han and Jin dynasties.Chapterâ…¡The appraisal of sex and age, the study of people's life spanAccording to the information of average obituary age and average life span, make a synthetical study about the sex and age structure of ancient residents.Chapterâ…¢The study of non-metrical morphologyThe results of observing and analyzing the continuous morphological trait of the skulls show that the ancient residents in Taojiazhai belong to Asian Mongoloid. In the research of discontinuous morphological trait, in order to discuss the differences between sex and age, so choose a few influencing skulls to compare with ancient skulls and modern skulls, analyze the location of the ancient residents in race distributing system .Chapterâ…£The study of metrical morphologyAccording to the characters of skeletons, the ancient residents in Taojiazhai belong to the same stirps. The research of Ethnology shows that the morphological features of these skulls is closely to the modern Asian mongoloids, but they are still have some autochthonal features.Chapterâ…¤Comparing and study on relative groups from other ancient groupsEuclidean distance, Squared Euclidean distance, Hierarchical cluster analysis, principal components methods are used to compare the skulls in Taojiazhai with some correlation ancient groups. It shows that these skulls is closely to the skulls in early Qin, especially they are closely to the Kayue groups,but they are different from other ancient groups. Comparing to the Han and Jin dynasties, they are closely to the Han residents, and they are different from the Xianbei, Hun and other minority ancient groups.Chapterâ…¥The research of paleopathologyThis chapter make a meticulous observation of the skelectons of ancient residents in Taojiazhai, describe the hurt of the skelectons, the disease of the skelectons and the abnormality of the skelectons.
