Grafting Cultures:Study on the History and the Development of Chinese National OrchestraThis dissertation study on the history and development of Chinese national orchestraswith the method of ethnomusicology.The text is mainly linked with the contents of the fivechapters in addition to the"Preface"and the"Conclusion".In"Preface",the authordiscussed the significance of the research,analyses the research on the subject nowadays andset particular methods.The first chapter titled"cultural grafting"analyses with globalmacro-perspective to how the modern western industrial civilization impacted theagricultural civilization that it showed in a grand picture.The Chinese National Orchestramust be built up after the collision of the two civilizations,and this new music form as asense of nationalism and national symbols of China at the formation and the process ofmodern nation-state played an important role that can not be replaced.The second chaptertitled"special process"from the specific culture of modern Chinese history analyses theprocess of the national orchestra to explore,create,establish and to develop a special process,to explain the different historical stages in the music form as political symbols encountereddifferent experience.The third chapter titled"technology of orchestration"separately fromthe audio features,temperament system,the performance of instruments,analyses thetechnical performance of Chinese and Western orchestra comparative study some aspects ofChinese national orchestra to improve the technical characteristics and method.The forthChapter titled"art music"from three aspect of the main type of practice,a symphony ofexploration and modern breakthrough to dissertate the different style of the Chinese nationalorchestra,and discuss the different peculiarity of the composers from aspect of aesthetic andsocial and cultural perspective of evaluation.The last Chapter titled"contemporaryconditions",describing the time information era which initiate a new round of major culturaldiversification called"third wave".In this epoch,in the mainland of China,and Chinesenational orchestras show complex situations and present prosperity on overseas.So theauthor explained the deconstruction and re-combined of modern Chinese music fromcomparison of traditional art and new wave music.Finally at the"conclusion"part,theauthor put forward the important points again,and makes these arguments integration to thetheory system.
