Changsha Ta Kung Pao(1915-1927) And Hunan Social Thoughts

Changsha "Ta Kung Pao" was one of extremely influential Hunan local newspapers during the Time of the Republic of China.As a private newspaper,it was also a newspaper with strong political color.In 1915-1927,wars between warlords were unceasing,there was no strong central government to rule China.The control of speech and press was relatively relaxed.Relatively liberal press environment made the newspapers can press straightly.Thus,Changsha "Ta Kung Pao" of this period has highly historical value.Based on Changsha "Ta Kung Pao" of 1915-1927,this article studies Hunan Social Thoughts in 1910s to 1920s, explores the interaction between the newspaper and Hunan social thoughts.Using pen and ink as weapons,Changsha "Ta Kung Pao" ignited the flame against Yuan firstly,created the public opinion against Yuan, promoted the Republican trend developed in Hunan.It was also in the propaganda of Republican ideas,Changsha "Ta Kung Pao" moved people with its outspoken,got a reputation and became a very popular newspaper.After Yuan Shikai's death,the thought of autonomous province got arise.Self-government movement launched in Hunan province firstly, Hunan developed China's first provincial Constitution.With the expectations of transformation of China,Changsha "Ta Kung Pao" reported the thought of Joint-province self-government effortlessly.The people of Ta Kung Pao,Long Jian-gong as its representation,was also personally involved in Hunan Joint-province Self-government Movement, crying for Hunan Joint-province Self-government,adding fuel to the flames of the movement.During the formation and development of thoughts of Joint-province Self-government,Changsha "Ta Kung Pao" seized the mainstream discourse timely,opened up columns as "the problem of Hunan construction" and "discussion of the provincial constitution",attracting people to participate.Started by May Fourth Movement,the New Culture Movement carried out in Hunan in full swing.On one hand,acted as a vital prerequisite of the new ideas,Changsha "Ta Kung Pao" developed Hunan New Culture Movement strongly,promoted a surging trend of democracy and science in Hunan.On the other hand,the New Culture Movement of Changsha had a profound impact to Changsha "Ta Kung Pao" no matter in terms of form or content.Changsha,"Ta Kung Pao" started using the vernacular,improved program,refreshed the spirit of the press,the style of writing was newer.Influenced by the tide of democracy in the world and the New Culture Movement,the thought of women's liberation became a mainstream voice of social progress.Women's liberation began with the demands for right of self-determination marriage,then developed to equal education right between men and women,equal right of property inheritance,equal right of political participation and so on.with its keen sense of News,Changsha "Ta Kung Pao" launched discussions of marital problems and women's political issues,became a powerful press in propagandizing of women's liberation.Under the supervision of Changsha "Ta Kung Pao" and other media,the women' s suffrage was written into the Constitution of Hunan Province.Only in Hunan,women enjoyed the right of political participation,which was the glory for Hunan women, also a victory of Changsha "Ta Kung Pao" and other news media.Hunan was the source of civilian education and also a developed area of civilian education.1926 divided Hunan civilians thought to two periods.Prior to 1926,those who presided over civilian teachings were generally reluctant to talking about politics;in 1926,after the station of National Revolutionary Army in Hunan,Hunan civilians education's political characteristic increased day by day.during the height of education campaigns,Changsha,"Ta Kung Pao" had collections of civilians education every day,reported the implementation of civilians education in time,propagandized the ideas of civilians education, promote the ideas of civilians education flourished in Hunan."The civilian population in Hunan Education",a supplement of Changsha "Ta Kung Pao",become the main trend to advocating the ideas of civilians education.Those who engaged in the Hunan-taught movement elucidated their thoughts.Thus,not only the thoughts of civilian education spread,but also Changsha "Ta Kung Pao" expanded its influence in the community.The thoughts this article studies including the Republican thought, Joint- province self-government thought,democracy and scientific thought,women's liberation thought,civilians education thought,which were not only in the context of the country,but also had a distinctive feature of Hunan.Though each appeared to be independent,in fact,they had inner logic connections.In the final analysis,they were waves in the evolution of China's democracy thoughts.Changsha "Ta Kung Pao" interacted with Hunan social thoughts. On one hand,Changsha "Ta Kung Pao" influenced and restricted the trends of Hunan social thoughts by creating public opinions,on behalf of public opinions,reforming public opinions.On the other hand,the trends of Hunan social thoughts had a great impact to Changsha "Ta Kung Pao": the mainstream words of the newspapers changed unceasingly;columns innovated unceasingly;style improved continuously;journalists' concept of freedom furthered deeply;newspapers took to the road of modernization step by step.
