A Study On The Interactive Relationship Between WEN HSUN And The Contemporary Literature In Taiwan

WEN HSUN started publication in July, 1983. It belonged to the Central Cultural Committee of KMT, which played an important role in Taiwan literary field. Sun Qiming, Li Ruiteng and Feng Deping are the successive editors. On January, 2003, KMT stopped to shift funds on WEN HSUN. Then WEN HSUN was supported by the financial group Taiwan Literature Development foundation, which turned this party-run publications into a non-publicly funded magazine. Within 25 years, WEN HSUN was ever a monthly magazine, and then bimonthly, and monthly again. It also faced forewarn of not printing, but at last it survived. For it is funded by KMT, WEN HSUN took the task of cultural and propaganda work at the beginning, but it insists the culture value and respect the voice of literati. WEN HSUN undertakes the task of historical documents filing, literary review, literary studies and information report, and it gradually became the stronghold of Taiwan literary studies and historical file, and occupied a very important position in Taiwan literary field. So, during the 25 years, because of its serviceability, technicality and the library collection, WEN HSUN has played the main role in Taiwan literary field. Some literati described its function and character as the Hussar in Taiwan literary field or Information Express, the Home of Writers (a club for introducing writers and their gathering), Academy Researcher or the Pushing Hands of literary development, and Literary Repository.The issue of WEN HSUN has been considered as a phenomenon in light of the histories of Taiwan's contemporary literature, mass communication, academic, culture and publication. It has shed a light on Taiwan's literature, culture, publication, literary communication and study of regional literature and history since 1980s. It has witnessed and contributed to the formation of Taiwan's contemporary literature. It has guided the preservation of material about Chinese literature history, literature study, research into the history of regional literature and literature review. Therefore, WEN HSUN has been served as a witness and recorder of the history of Taiwan's contemporary literature. It has played a part in the history of Taiwan's literature publication. It has facilitated the change of Taiwan's literature communication and acted as a seaman in the academic study. It has established cultural themes and has led and driven the study of regional literature and history. It has promoted and practiced Taiwan's culture construction.The research mainly applies the method of empirical study, and on this basis, analytical, statistical, inductive and synthetic methods and the theories of literary sociology are also used. The thesis holds that literature is social and the literature periodicals are most sociable cultural products. As one part of literary dissemination, literature periodicals link editors, readers, and writers and play a part of transfer, pivot and alternateness, and also generate the first literary facts context. Meanwhile, literature periodicals are also one of the chains of social production of culture, and have powerful planning, organizing function. Therefore, to explore literary magazine, we should break away the rules of pure literature and aesthetics , embed sociality into literature and reflect the interaction between literature periodicals and literature and contemplate the place of literature periodicals in the literary sociology from the aspects of mass-communication theory, literary field theory, readers' response theory, and journal editing studies, etc. Hence, the "literary sociology" used in this research is a general concept which embraces mass-communication theory, journal editing studies, public sphere theory, literary magazine studies, and literary field theory. In addition, cultural hegemony theory,sociology, ethics, culture studies, book review studies, and historical data studies are also very helpful in the paper writing. However, it must be pointed that the most essential way is to be closely around periodicals and access their historical contexts, and to obtain primary sources, read them carefully and do comprehensive thinking and comparison.
