This dissertation carries out a comparative study on Chinese and American"partnership". The theoretical meaning of "partnership" is analyzed from internationalconfiguration perspective, regional and global stability perspective and inter-nationrelationship perspective."Partnership" means the cooperative relation establishedbetween nations in order to seek common interests. Under a coordinating internationalconfiguration, there is few pointed "Partnership". Strategic stability is no longerconfined to military level, instead, it expanded to political, economic and culturalarenas. It is closely related to geopolitics which determines the future stability anddevelopment of the international system."Partnership" is divided into three categories:"Alliance Partnership" which focuses "Ally","Common Partnership" whose feature is"Non-Ally" and "Pointed Partnership" whose purpose is to contain rivals. There arethree variables deciding "Partnership": independent variable, dependent variable andintervening variable. Independent variables include international system andconfiguration, nature of the nation, national interest and national power, and others;Dependent variables include international situation, closeness between nations andothers; Intervening variables include the attitude of policy-makers, special incidents, the change of the third party and others. On the basis of a clear theoreticalclarification of "Partnership", the paper establishes the General Analytic Frameworkfor "Partnership"."Partnership" can be divided into "Positive Partnership","Relatively Positive Partnership","Relatively Negative Partnership" and "NegativePartnership". According to this, the paper sorts out the status quo of Chinese andAmerican development in "Partnership" and points out different features. On this base,it establishes the analytic models for "Partnership" of China and America, includingits influencing factors, systematic structures and functions. The difference betweenChinese and American Partnership is reflected in correlations such as"Non-Pointed" versus "Pointed","Non-Rival" versus "Rival","Conserving" versus"Expanding","First Priority to Common Partnership" versus "First Priority toAlliance and Pointed Partnership". From the perspective of strategic studies, the paper also discusses that China's interpretation on American's partnership and American'sinterpretation in Chinese partnership is different from their own understandings.China and America also have different cognitive views on the bilateral partnership. This paper thoroughly analyzes these two groups of cognitions.
