CPUSA that has contributed much to international communist movement is the important agency of international worker movement. Over 50 years after WWII was a significant period in American socialism development, during which American socialist movement was plunged into great straits because of rampant attack from monopolist capitalists, tortuous development in international communist movement and CPUSA immaturity. However, members of CPUSA were always unyielding and roused from adversity. At present, they stepped into the 21st century and are waiting for new fighting. As a result, it is a major topic in contemporary socialist study to explore CPUSA developing history after WWII, to summarize its experience and lessons, to grasp its rules and to detect its tendency and prospect. The dissertation attempts, under the direction of the fundamentals of Marxism and Leninism and by applying the scientific approach of dialectical and historical materialism, to give a relatively systematic and comprehensive examination of the socialist practice by CPUSA from three aspects of history, reality and theory, along the socialist practice of CPUSA in specific American political, economic and social conditions and the international communist movement development. The dissertation consists of 7 parts:The preface explicates the meaning of the topic, the present research situation home and abroad, research thinking, research methods, creative points, difficult points and shortcomings. The first part dissertates main activities of CPUSA in initial period after W W II and analyzes its gain and loss. After that, CPUSA reached its peak. Facing the cold war and anti-communist and anti-worker current, there appeared "left" impetuous emotion. CPUSA supported the third-party movement wrongly, which caused the break from the upper of Congress of Industrial Organizations, middle class of the liberal, and its isolation. Further more, CPUSA counterattacked internal government persecutionmistakenly. These caused CPUSA to suffer from frustration. The second part discourses main activities of CPUSA from the late 1950s to the late 1980s and assays reasons for CPUSA devious developing. Because the situation in and out was detente, P-Dennis and J-Gate began to summarize experience and lessons in the past ten years. In content and form about rethinking, the disagreement among Dennis's steady faction, Gate's radical faction and W-Z-Forst's limited faction, CPSU 20th convention, Poland-Hungary Event and other impacts led CPUSA rethinking into confusion, at the cost of CPUSA power. In 1960s, CPUSA fought for recovering legal rights under the pressure of internal civilization movement and anti-Vietnam war movement, American governing class had to slacken the direct prosecution to CPUSA and recovered the lawful position of CPUSA so that CPUSA energized from the under ground to the public. During 1970s and 1980s, CPUSA took an active part in Labor Movement, Peace Movement, the Youth Movement. Minorities Movement and ran for president. Thus, its effect and strength resuscitated step by step. At the same time, this part assays reasons for CPUSA devious growing. The author insists that the tardy recruiting results from inner and outer factors, but the main reason is that CPUSA didn't combine Marxism with American reality and era character well. The third part expounds the impact to CPUSA by the radical change of Soviet Union and East Europe, such as thinking confusion, organization fissure, number decreasing sharply, CPUSA counteroffensive measures and rethinking. The central committee led by Gus Hall resisted the change pressure, convened ideological meeting, fought back the wrong view-communism has been dead, and made members believe in socialism. The 25th convention defeated fissurelism and protected CPUSA unification. CPUSA esteemed that socialism crisis, which was factitious mistake, was different from capitalism crisis. The fourth part discusses policies changes made by CPUSA according to the new situation.
