10 years before the War of Resistance Against Japan was an important complicated historical period in modern china. In this period, to pursue modernization had been a theme of the social development, but whether China can realize the modernization or not depended on the western region to a great extent. Meanwhile, whether the west can realize the modernization or not depended on it's industrial development. So, this thesis proceeded around the industrial development in the west 10 years before the War of Resistance Against Japan.This thesis is composed of some following aspects. First is to clarify the historical background for the industrial development of the west 10 years before the War of Resistance Against Japan. Second is to explain the historical starting point and the basis of the industrial development of the western region, namely, to make a survey of the industrial development before 1927.Third is to expound government's policy orientation and various countrymen's plans for the industrial development during that time. Fourth is to sort out all kinds of related historical data to expound the general condition of the industrial development during that time .Fifth is to analyze the level of the industrial development and further set forth reasons for this effect.We thought, the industrial development of the west 10 years before the War of Resistance Against Japan had not only proceeded in the course of developing the western region but also itself was a key link in developing the western region. Why the development of the western region attracted wide attention was due to the strategical position of the west in modern china. Rather backward at that time as the western region was, it was rich in natural resources and full of development hope. Itwas qualified as the base where countrymen stood up against Japan's aggression and revived the Chinese nation. So, the Nationalist government attached importance to the industrial development in the west. It's key measures included following two aspects. One is to explore the natural resources related to the basic industry. Another is to improve the infrastructure construction in the west. Besides, government and countrymen also put forward many plans for the industrial development, which mainly conform to the objective reality of the west at that time.As for the specific course of the industrial development, the western areas had some advantages in some industrial resources, and by 1927,the industry in the west had developed to a certain extent. The industrial development in the west 10 years before the War of Resistance Against Japan was on the basis of these industrial resources and the development performances in the past. On the whole, 10 years before the War of Resistance Against Japan, the industry in the west had achieved growth in varying degrees. Quantity of the factory and volume of the investment had increased in this period. The equipment of the factory had been updated. The technical ability had been improved. The level of the industrialization had been raised. At the same time, compared with other regions and the general condition in modern china, the industrial development in the west was limited. The factory which was established 10 years before the War of Resistance Against Japan was not only small in scale but also lost balance in regional distribution. The industrial development didn't essentially improved the industrial structure and the regional distribution structure. There was still a great gap in industrial development between in the west and in the east.In a word, 10 years before the War of Resistance Against Japan,the industrial development in the west was in a paradoxical condition ,in which industry could grow as well as couldn't fully grow. Why the result came into being was in many ways.
