Since the middle 1950's, the theoretical and business fields have paid more and more attention to interactions between organization and environment, organizational change and innovation. The business environment has already changed fundamentally because of the fast development of information technology (IT), increasing glocalization of market competition, and intense customization of product or service. On one hand, organizations must undergo great environmental challenge. Organizational boundaries are continuously penetrating, and become more and more obscure. A core enterprise, together with its upstream and downstream ones, is co-evolving toward the business ecosystems accordingly. Thus the competitive pattern that is time-based and intensive competition is based on competitions between alliances, not those of two enterprises only. Only the alliance-based networking organization that is flexible enough to adapt, creative enough to innovate, and responsive enough to learn is able to acquire sustainable competitive advantage and higher innovation rent at the edge of chaos. China's manufacturing enterprises are facing a severe challenge and a good opportunity to develop in the hyper-competitive networked environment. On the other hand, the hyper-competitive networked environment, which is full of turbulence, is continuously challenging established theory and practice of management. The strong interrelationship that has to exist between organizational dimensions such as strategy, organizational culture, IT, processes, and structure, and the business environment is increasingly non-linear and complex. Therefore, the traditional organization theory fails to give a satisfactory explanation to the above phenomena and their essences. Accordingly, the new pattern of organizational innovation theory and its practice is significantly needed.Based on Koch & Laurent's viewpoint on three requirements for explaining the behavior of complexity system, this thesis focuses on the theoretical and empirical study of the following four research questions by comparison, integration and development of different disciplines and methods such as organization theory, innovation theory, the theory of the firm, complexity science, system theory, organizational learning and knowledge management, and psychics: (1) Critical success factors (CSFs) of organizational innovation of manufacturing enterprises in the IT-based networked environment; (2) The systematic behavior of organizational innovation and its complexity; (3) The correlation among environmental turbulence, organizational innovation elements (organizational culture innovation, IT innovation, processes innovation and organizational structure innovation), organizational innovation competence and organizational performance; (4) The pattern of integrated organizational innovation (IOI) of manufacturing enterprises in the IT-based networked environment. The sample of this research has 312 manufacturing enterprises in China. Many quantitative methods, including LISREL analysis and regression analysis, are used to test the hypothesis of this research. Moreover, case study method is used in this thesis. This thesis constructs the theory and method of IOI for manufacturing enterprises inthe IT-based networked environment, and provides policy implications and management tools for Chinese manufacturing enterprises' organizational innovation. This thesis is divided into eight chapters.Chapter One is an introduction. It centers on research background and questions of this thesis. Combining increasingly great challenge to organization and its management in the hyper-competitive networked environment, main problems and deficiencies of organizational innovation and its management of Chinese manufacturing enterprises, and the limitations of prior research work in this area, this chapter puts forward a fundamental question to be answered by this thesis, its including three basic ones, and four specific ones, and presents the research aims.Chapter Two is a co...
