An epoch brings up an operating model. In E-era which based on VT&IT, virtual operating that is marked by external resources and contract operation emerged. The core of virtual operating is a greatest extent to use external resources to be content with the dynamic demands of customers. Its elementary idea is to break the physical boundary of enterprise and extend foundation interface of enterprise. The sponsor enterprise of virtual operating is physical hollow but spiritual solid. In the static term, it is non-integral enterprise; in the dynamic term, it has integral function. By means of non-property right cooperation, virtual operating extends the scope of enterprise in optimizing distribution of resources, improves the flexibility of organization and enhances the speed of respond to market, so that helps the enterprise find itself in market first-mover advantageous position.Chapter 1 first of all analyzes the actuality background and practice motivation of virtual operating, which mainly include three aspects: the change of market demand, technology paradigm and management idea. Next this chapter generalizes the influential and representative viewpoint of foreign scholar on virtual operating according to three branches, which are organization form, production and network technology. Moreover this chapter that is based on document summaries and analyses reveals achievement and deficiency about present viewpoints of virtual operating so that determine research direction to the paper.Chapter 2 first of all compares virtual operating with eight similar ideas such as small enterprise colony, virtual enterprise, traditional cooperation, M&A, group based on contract, enterprise alliance, network operating, outsourcing and so on. On these grounds, this chapter induces four typical characteristics of virtual operating such as non-property right cooperation, virtual function, directionality and using VT&IT. Next it probes into law characteristics of virtual operating from objective and subjective angle. Then this chapter comes to the definitions of virtual operating. Moreover it delimitates correlative concept such as upper limit and lower limit of virtual operating, low-level and high-level of virtual operating, virtual operating and virtual operating ecosystem, quasi- virtual operating and standard virtual operating, virtual cooperation, physical operating, the strategy of virtual operating and so on.Chapter 3 from four levels such as value (the theory of value chain), cost (the theory of transaction cost and contract), evolution (the theory of hyper-cycle theory) and technology (application and development of VT&IT) carries on theory interpretation why enterprise would rather choose virtual function than market function or internal function. In essence, virtual operating is a problem of benefits game. In order to analyze competitive and cooperative behavior in different cases, this chapter approaches all kinds of competitive and cooperative game possibilities of partners of virtual operating by means of multi-organization game model. And it further probes into the cooperative impetus of virtual operating from static and dynamic earning.Chapter 4 studies virtual operating from the angle of soft key elements (i.e. core competence, cooperative partners and benefits equilibrium) drawing on the experience of the methodologies of Karl Marx which believes when researching social relationships we should get hold of the core then from surface to interior. Virtual operating is non-property right cooperation based on VT&IT and certain core competence, so it can avoids four enter barriers under physical model such asspace, competition, government and culture.
