" Institutions are the rules of the game in a society; more formally, they are the humanly devised constraints that shape human interaction." Farmland institution is a humanly devised system to restrict people when they utilize the land, and also it is a human behavior criterion when people occupy and utilize farmland. Farmland institutions identify and restrict people to have opportunities and incentives in the process of utilizing farmland, and finally influence farmland's economic performance and benefits by affecting people's behavior.Since China join to WTO, agricultural products market would face international competition. Meanwhile, under the demand of beneficial agriculture to realize strategic adjustment for agriculture products structure, it is very urgent and important to adjust transform and innovate farmland institutions. Only in this way, we can fulfill rapid economic development in Chinese agriculture and countryside.This thesis is composed of 8 chapters. Chapter 1 is "introduction", it provide an overview of the whole thesis as well as the research objective, method, it also summarize the innovation and deficiency of the paper. Chapter 2 is "Review in the perspective of history", it analysis the history progress and the basic law evolved in the Chinese Farmland institution, it indicates that the population pressure is the basic motive to drive the transition of the Chinese farmland institutions. The population pressure would inevitably cause social crisis if rural labor can not be transferred completely, and finally leads compulsive population decrease through the dynasty change. Chapter 3 is "Comprehension in the perspective of formal rules", it presents the formal arrangement of Chinese Farmland institution, discovers internal conflict, and also analyzes the inadaptability and unreasonableness. Chapter 4 is "Investigation in the perspective of reality", it provides the data of the investigation on the real world. It will release us many real situation of the Chinese farmland institutions, and analyze realistic allotment of the land right among different interest group. Through this chapter, we will know the true evaluation on the land right for Chinese farmers. Chapter 5 is " a general theory on the farmland institution", it build a framework of analyzing the relation between the Chinese farmland and economic performance. Through a paradigm, we can evaluate the role ofChinese farmland institutions positively. Chapter 6 is "a positive analysis on land redistribution based on farmers real will", it indicates that demand of land redistribution will decrease. Chapter 7 is "a positive analysis on the land transfer based on data in Zhejiang province". This is a systemic research. The land transfer is a kind of innovation on farmland institutions in china. It will influence the evolvement of Chinese farmland institutions. Chapter 8 is "a summary and perspective of Chinese farmland institution". Based on the estimation to the future of Chinese economic development, I proposal a basic strategy of reformation on Chinese farmland institutions, and feel confidence on the brilliant future of Chinese farmland institutions.
