This dissertation consists of introduction and six chapters. In the part of introduction this dissertation introduces the genesis of topic choosing, the domestic study situation and even abroad, theoretical analysis instrument and the framework of this dissertation.In retrospection of the establishment of Indian constitutional system and traditional economic system and even the adjustment of other systems related, chapter 1 offers the background of Indian economic system transition in 1990s. By hackling the history, this chapter analyzed Indian people designing and selecting the mixed economic system under the parliamentary democracy since its independence, the system running circs, achievements and its limitation as well as the policy adjustment measures taken by Indian government.Chapter 2 mainly focuses on the concrete policies of economic system reform taken by the governments of Rao and Vajpayee in order to analyze the decision-making motivity of the government as the subject of system transition by the theory of system transition and probe the cost restriction of reform and strategy selection.Chapter 3 summarizes the achievements of the system transition for more than ten years of reform in India. This chapter mainly chooses economic rising data, macro economic index, industry Structural adjustment, public enterprise reform and the opening extent as the estimation criteria of achievements to analyze the real economic achievements after reform, the different characteristics after industry Structural adjustment comparing to other developing countries, the progress and obstacles of public enterprise reform and the characteristics of Indian opening policy. The reform progress in India was comparatively cautious but gained distinctive achievements.Chapter 4 analyzes the interaction between Indian economic reform and democratic politics system, Since its independence India transplanted Anglo-Saxon parliamentary democratic system, but it got much variation during its growth on the land of India. Different interest groups tried to restrict one another, the facts made the government have to take measures to keep the balance between the interest groups,and the reform was carried out slowly. But on the other hand Indian democratic system also avoided the society turbulence caused by sudden emerged reform. Democratic constitutional system took the latent conflicts of economic reform into the system framework and preferably resolved the problem of social stability in the course of system transition.Chapter 5 analyzes the interaction between Indian economic reform and social development. In the early days of the economic reform, the government cut the investment on the fields of social public sections sharply, owing to the finance shrinking policy, and the reform cost was preferably borne by the lower class in poverty. With the better-off of the economic condition, social public sections development improved, however how to adjust the economic development to correspond with society development in the condition of limited capitals became a dilemma before the developing countries like India .The system transition in India was also affected greatly by the traditional moral convention and religious culture. Therefore, this chapter analyzes the impact of castesystem and religion--the two most protruding characteristics of Indian society onits economic development and the impact of economic reform on traditional culture .Chapter 6 ponders the relationship between economic reform and development and makes a conclusion theoretically. It is the major problem before developing countries to design and establish a suitable system in order to guarantee the realization of economic development and overtaking target in the circumstance of unhealthy and immature marketing economic system.
