Firms, as the micro carriers of national economic development, their growth and enlargement directly reflect the level and scale of national economic development. Therefore, firm growth is a tremendous problem in the reform and opening process for our country. Today, some firms pursue scale expansion madly, and neglect the promotion of their ability, which leads them to fail, so makes the life problem of firms more prominent. In essence, as a life, firms do not only pursue growth and expansion, but also the promotion of their ability and the increase of adapting for environment. We must focus on the evolution of firms. To get sustainable growth, firms must evolve, and the evolution of firms shows some self-organization impress. The dissertation researches on firm evolution mechanisms by self-organization theory. The contents are as follows:1. On the basis of research outputs all over the world, the basic theories and concepts were explained. Firm evolution expresses by some character of self-organization.2. In chapter 3, the firm evolution system based on self-organization theory was analyzed. First, the structure model of firm evolution system was established, including firms culture, strategy, organizational framework, management system and style, human resources and skills. And analyze the environment, functions. On the basis of all research outputs, the author argues the dominant element should be organizational learning gene.3. In chapter 4, the firm evolution mechanisms were analyzed. First, the firm evolution dynamics should be clear. The dynamics may come from the firm itself or the outer environment, the market pull or technology push, or the random factors. Then explains from two aspects, in the process of strategy setting and based on market opportunity. The evolution mechanisms in the process of strategysetting is discussed from inner and outer system dynamics, while evolution mechanisms based on the market opportunity is discussed from market pull or technology push. Lastly, the interaction model of firm evolution was established. The model expresses clearly that the firm evolution is a self-organization process by the interaction of inner system elements.4. In chapter 5, the synergic evolution mechanisms of business ecosystem was analyzed. First, the relationship of organization and environment was analyzed. Then, the synergic evolution mechanisms between firms and competitors, suppliers, and customs were analyzed deeply.5. In chapter 6, the firm evolution ability was evaluated. First, the shortcoming of the existed evaluation was discussed, then establishes the index system to evaluate evolution ability and simulates by BP NN model.6. In the chapter 7, the main problems and countermeasures were set forth in the firm evolution.
