Agriculture is a basic part of one country, whose development and growth plays a very significant role in the whole social's development. So, the research of agricultural international competitiveness is common and important, which has been paid more and more attention to by most countries. It has been three years since China's WTO access, which impels Chinese agriculture confont to global competition. Does China agriculture have competitiveness in the world market? How will China agriculture counter such challenges? We need some postive study in order to answer such questions. So, the study on the international competitiveness of China agriculture places a very important significance to expedite China structural adjustment of agriculture and better the structure of our agricultural trade, and for the agriculture modernization and the sustainable development of China agriculture.Thereby, by combinatiing the theories of comparative advantage and competitive advantage, referring the correlating research, guide by Marxist dialectical materialism and historical materialism, this article comprehensively utilizes academic theories of international economics and trade geography, international trade, industrial economics and so on, and adopts quantitative and qualitative research approaches and measures to carry out theoretic research into the international competitive power of the agricultural industry, and formulates the theoretic framework for agricultural industry.Base on the fact that China has been a member of WTO, with an eye to the international competitiveness of China agriculutural products and agriculturue industry, this article erected the theory of the agriculture international competitiveness. That is to say, this article has expounded the content of agriculture international competitiveness, the characters of agriculture international competition, the origin of agriculture inernational competitiveness. The research for international competitive power of agriculture belongs to the intermediate level of international competitiveness, which includes not only the contents of industrial international competitiveness but also the contents of the competitiveness of agricultural products. The agriculture of this thesis is the big agriculture, namely the modern agriculture. The international competitive power of agriculture means the capacity of the agriculture to maintain sustained growth and to make profit continuously in theinternational competition. It is reflected in the following four fields: the ability to produce agricultural products, the internationalization level of agriculture, the possibility to keep sustained growth and the capacity of making long-term profit. However, the international competitiveness is restricted by such factors as the historic foundation, natural conditions, natural resources, population and labor conditions, structural adjustment and government's support etc.Then, this article created the indexes system to measure the international competitiveness of China agricultural products and agriculture industry. Namely, this article on not only used the theory of comparative advantage to measure the competitiveness of Chinese agricultural products, but also utilized the theory of competitive advantage to measure the international competitiveness of Chinese agriculture in order to find its advantages and disadvantages. On such a basis, the author then forwards the countermeasures in details for improvement of performance, namely improve the support extent of our government, expedite agricultural innovation and increase the structural adjustment of agriculture etc.Research made in this thesis achieves the following conclusions.(1) The international competitiveness of China agricultural products in the international market is vulnerable, and the corn, soybean and processed farm products are facing violent competition. With increasingly expanded import of agricultural products and the processed farm products from the United States and other developed countries after China's participation in WTO, the competition will become more and much fiercer. By the way, the rice and meat maintain some competitiveness in the international market. Totally speaking, since China agricultural products take a part in the international competition based on the traditional comparative advantages, the labor-intensed agricultural products are competitive while the land-intensed agricultural products are reducing international competitiveness.(2) Compared with the international competitivness of agriculture of India, Japan, Canada, Untied States, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand and Russia, the international competitiveness of China agriculture ranks four, whose data is 29.574. The gap with United States (38.150), Australia (35.097) and New Zealand (33.167) is large. Of course, the international competitiveness of China agriculture is higher than that of Canada (29.431), Japan (27.923), Brazil (25.508), India (23.195) and Russia (19.496).
