As one part of History of Chinese Economic Thoughts, this dissertation has managed to depict the evolvement of Chinese inflation theories factually and exactly. Chinese inflation theories are classified as follows: Firstly, the comments of Chinese scholar on western inflation theories. Secondly, the researching achievements about inflation existed in China by using relative conceptions and methods of western inflation theories for reference. Thirdly, Chinese original inflation theories. Moreover, the dissertation also discusses the applicability of western inflation theories in explaining inflation happened in China. In another words, what are the similarities and differences between Chinese and western inflation theories? What are the deep-seated reasons behind the differences? The answer will decide the attitude we treat the western inflation theories and the tendency prediction of the theories.Preliminary summarization has been made in chapter 1, drawing a conclusion that 1930s is the beginning of the contemporary inflation theories. Therefore, the researching scope of the dissertation is from 1930s to 1996. Moreover, this chapter evaluates the existing History of Chinese Inflation Thoughts and puts forward four issues about methodology required to be solved. Chapter 2 expatiates on the four issues correspondingly to establish the whole style. The criterion is set by defining the meaning of inflation, bringing forward the new classification and seeking the new researching methods.Chapter 3 makes the arguments on paper currency circulation system as the beginning of Chinese contemporary inflation theories, recognizing inflation(narrow sense) was the biggest obstacle to carry out the system, Scholars started their research on the system from the angle of avoiding inflation. Vitality of inflation theories attributes to the change of coinage as well as the introduction of western economics and Marxism. As the academia just reviewed the exotic theories rather than applied them to analyse Chinese phenomena, the classical inflation thoughts were still dominant.Considering economic system variance as a great drive for the development of inflation theories, Chapter 4 comes straight to the point of the economic system reform from 1979 to 1983. It's in such kind of background that scholars have to choose between fogyism and innovation. Taking inflation theories as an example, the arguments on existence and index of inflation, the diversification of inflation definition, the differences in researching ideology and the attitude on western inflation theories all represent the selection. The academia centres on introduction of the western inflation theories and tend to comment on them in terms of Marxism rather than hypothesis and economic circumstance. Scholars rarely use the western inflation theories for reference to explain inflation happened in China.Chapter 5 is the greatest part in length not only because of the span of 9years( 1984-1992 ) but the enormous system of inflation theories. There are twobreakthroughs of the inflation theories. One is the complication of inflation causes.
