The dissertation aims at historically describing the vicisside of the ethnic Chinese group's political status in Indonesia on different historical stage or in different historical period, making theoretical explanations for the ethnic Chinese group's political status overall and systematically, summarizing the experiences and lessons from both the Chinese government and the Indonesian government on the issue of the ethnic Chinese group, and giving some advice on the solvements of the issue from the author's view, so that the Chinese government can better ultilize the political and economical resources from the ethnic Chinese group and to promote the Sino-Indonesian relations.The main views includes: (1) to investigate the rights and interests of the Chinese overseas as emigrants in Indonesia, including those that the their returning to their motherland to participate in politics and the space for them to engage in economical, educational and cultural activities, and their rights to express their political identity towards China; (2) to investigate the political status of the ethnic Chinese in Indonesia on the different historical stage or in the different historical period, including two aspects: The political status of the ethnic Chinese gifted by law and policies from the Indonesian government in political, economical, educational and cultural fields, and so on, and the responds from the ethnic Chinese towards their political status gifted by law and policies; (3) on different historical stage or in different historical period, the political participatation of the ethnic Chinese; (4) to make theoretical explanations overall and systematically for the ethnic Chinese group's political status in Indonesia on different historical stage or in different historical period; (5) to give some advice on the ethnic Chinese group's development in the future.Although Indonesia has the biggest population of ethnic Chinese in the world, and also Indonesia is the country wthere ethnic Chinese have received most attacks than anywhere else, there has been no specialized publication and few papers on this study so far. Therefore, this study has its significance out of question.
