| Comrade Jiang ZeMing pointed in the report of the 16th CCP Convention, "National spirit is the energy support with which a nation can survive and develop." Without stimulated energy and gracious character, a nation can not self-support around the world nations. During the development of five thousands years, there engenders great spirit of the Chinese people, which comprise solidarity, consolidation, loving peace, industrious, brave, constantly strive to become stronger, and whose core is patriotism. The CCP leads the people combine constantly the requirements of age and social development to enrich the national spirit. Facing the circumstances under which variety of thinking and culture collide with each other, we must bring the development and nurture of national spirit into the whole process of national education and spirit civilization construction as a very important task of cultural construction." Guiding by the explaination of Comrade Jiang ZeMing in the report mentioned above, the dissertation tries to use the methods as materialism and dialectic, systematic and scientific, theory relates reality to analyze and study wholy and systematicly the meaning, characters, functions, main contents, basic expressive forms of national spirit, and approachs of developing and nurturing the national spirit. That will help to understand and grasp form a more deeper level the idea of "insisting the development and nurture of national spirit" which was posed by Comrade Jiang ZeMing.The dissertaion includes six parts.The first part(introduction) expoundes the meaning, basic chracters and main functions of the spirit of Chinese people, and also the significance of the development and nurture of national spirit. The dissertation holds that the spirit of Chinese people should be an excellent historical tradition which inheres the Chinese culture and which is persistent. It is a vital energy force which has functions of coherence, accomodation, promotion and civilization in the surviving and developing process of Chinese people. The main contents are the common value ideal, value target, methods of value realization and path, i.e. , the value idea of Chinese people. From the angle of main difference between Chinese culture and western culture, the spirit of Chinese people has three basic characters, they are the spirit of reason, the spirit of dialectic, the spirit of humanism.The spirit of Chinese people has functions of support, coherence, guide, education and inspiration. Developing and nurturing the spirit of Chinese people has great practical significance on the aspects of dealing with international competetion of synthetical national force, of fulfilling the great renewal of Chinese people, and of cultural development.The second part(the first chapter) expounds the spirit of Chinese people which was sparkplugged in the thinking of Confucianism, Mohist, Daoism,. The dissertation holds, the spirit of Chinese people which sparkpluged in the thinking of Confucianism includes mainly the spirit of peace, kindness, Great Harmony, constantly strive to become stronger, and ceremony. The spirit of Chinese people which sparkplugged in the thinking of Mohist, includes mainly the spirit of love, diligent, and "mutual advantage". The spirit of Chinese people which sparkpluged in the thinking of daoism includes mainly the spirit of guilelessness, taking little care of selfish and desire, "knowing glory and keeping disgrace".The spirit of Chinese people which sparkpluged in the thinking of Legalist includes mainly the spirit of "self restraint, dedication to the public", "loving people, keeping promise", "ceremony, righteousness, probity, dishonour". The dissertation also holds, probing into the spirit of Chinese people which was sparkplugged by the thinking of Confucianism, Daoism, Legalist nowadays has practical significance for us which can not be looked out to realize the historical development of the spirit of Chinese people and for the development and nurture of the spirit of Chinese people.The third part (the second chapter) expounds the basic expressive forms of the spirit of Chinese people. Combine with the narration of Comrade Jiang ZeMing in the report of the 16th CCP Convention, the dissertation believes that the national spirit of solidarity, consolidation, loving peace, industrious ,brave and constantly strive to become stronger compose the basic expressive forms of the spirit of Chinese people. The dissertation reviews why the national spirit of solidarity, consolidation, loving peace, industrious, brave and constantly strive to become stronger compose the basic expressive forms of the spirit of Chinese people from the angle of historical development. Based on it, the dissertation analyzes the significance of developing and nurturing the national spirit of solidarity, consolidation, loving peace, industrious, brave and constantly strive to become stronger from the practical requirements.The fourth part (the third chapter) gives theoretic demonstration to the core of the spirit of Chinese people, patriotism, which was posed in the report of the 16th CCP Convention by Comrade Jiang ZeMing. The dissertation holds, comparing with the patriotism tradition of other people, the patriotism of Chinese people has distinct characters of long history, abundant content and profoud energy. During thousands of years, concerning about the native land, sufferring for the country and people, caring for solidarity and consolidation, dedicating for the public, and cherishing the open door mind become the main expressive foms of patriotism in the history of Chinese people. The dissertation also holds, patriotism runs through the historical process from the beginning to the end as a kind of feeling of deep suffering and historic obligation. Patriotism is the common mental deposition and thinking pattern of Chinese people. It is the forming base of the spirit of Chinese people, and it is the strong force for the spirit of Chinese people to grow, develop and become strong. Patriotism endows strong feeling of identity and beloning to Chinese people in the developing history of Chinese people, it endows distinct characters to Chinese people, it endows strong force of coherence, strong centripetal force and strong combatting force to Chinese people. The dissertation expounds the practical significance of developing and nurturing patriotism spirit from the aspects of inspring suffering mind ,which need a nation to think of danger during the peace time, and national proper pride and self confidence.The fifth part(the fourth chapter) narrates that as the the report of the 16th CCP Convention pointed out, the CCP enrich the national spirit according to the requirements of age and social development in the long period of deverlopment. The dissertation believes, the CCP's enrichment and development of the national spirit can be divided into three stages. The first sage was from the "May 4th "to the founding of New China, there formed the spirit of the "May 4th ",Long March and Yanan under the lead of the CCP in the Chinese revolution.The second stage was from the founding of New China to the third meeting of the 11th CCP convention, there formed the spirit of Daqing, Lei Feng and Jiao Yulu under the lead of the CCP in the socialist constrution period. The third part was after the open door policy, there formed the spirit of being practical and realistic, innovating, combatting the flood and non typical pneumonia. The dissertation explains the spirit above from two basic aspects, the meaning and practical value, it puts forwad that we must continue to develop and nurture these spirit of Chinese people which already formed under the new historical conditions.The sixth part(the fifth chapter) develops the narration around three topics, combinning with the saying that "developing and nurturing the national spirit is a very important task of cultural construction"and the two "bring into" which was posed in the report of the 16th CCP Convention. The first topic is about the cultural constrction and national spirit. The dissertation believes, the national spirit and cultural construction affect and influence each other. The effect and influence of the national spirit to the cultural construction embodies mainly on two aspects, first, the national spirit will destroy and reconstruct the cultural construction,second, developing and nurturing the national spirit is the important content of cultrural construction. The effect and influence of the cultural construction to the national spirit also embodies on two aspects, first, the task of developing and nurturing of national spirit need to be accomplished by cultural construction, second, the development and nurture of the modern spirit of Chinese people can only be endowed by socialist culture. When we develop and nurture the national spirit in the cultural construction, two important aspects must be grasped. First, we must study and inherit the soul of excellent traditional culture. Second, we must study and use for reference the excellent civilization fruit of other people around the world, especially the west. In order to deal with the problem of cultural construction and national spirit correctly, we should avoid and conquer two kinds of wrong tendency. One is the attitude of doctrinairism, the other is nihilism. The second topic of this part is about the education of national spirit which can be bringed into the whole process of national education. The dissertation holds, it includes three basic forms to bring the education of national spirit into the whole process of national education. Schools are main positions, families are beginning points and social education is a big class. In order to bring the education of national spirit into the whole process of national education, we must grasp important movement and matter as the chance, excellent model as the prominent carrier. The focus of bringing the education of national spirit into the whole process of national education are as follows, strengthen historical education, reinforce national self confidence, strengthen the education of the situation of a country, reinforce the feeling of natinal obligation, reinforce the education of the situation of the world, strengthen the national suffering mind. The third topic is about the educatin of the national spirit which can be bringed into the whole process of the spirit civilization constrction. The dissertation holds, to bring the educatin of national spirit into the whole process of spirit civilization constrction, it means first to bring the educatin of national spirit into the whole system of the spirit civilization constrction, means filter the education of national spirit into every aspects and main realms of socialist spirit civilization construction. Meanwhile, socialist spirit civilization construction ought to create cultural conditional and integrate efficient resources for the development and nurture of national spirit.
