According to the field survey of Song Village in Henan province, this article systematically researched the general image of disputes in rural society, as well as the basic logic and transformation trajectory of mediation. Furthermore, this article contributed to the further understanding of the rural society in radical changes and the interaction between the nation and the rural society during the transition. It revealed, in this article, that since last 20 years, the improvement of peasants' economic ability, the weakening of their interdependency, the reduction of their interaction, and the advancement of their rationalization, jointly led to the decrease of the frequency of the disputes. This did not necessarily mean that the relation among villagers became harmonious. On the contrary, as their mutual expectation had weakened, they showed indifference to each other, and the common relationship, as well as the mutual aid and coordination system tended to disintegrate. The relationship among villagers could be described as seemingly in harmony but actually in variance. These transformations have led to the traditional production capacity of order form internal villages weak, because of this; maintain the basic order of village has to be dependent on the official organizations more and more. And more, along with the authority and executing ability of the local organization had weakened, the undercurrent of the forces of darkness is emerging, the village seemed to be a place where the national power and law couldn't enter. This article, through the analysis of the practice of mediation, reveals that rural society has being a great transformation in recent ten years, while the villagers have become highly rationalized, the rural communities have gradually disintegrated, and the traditional local order have weakened, in which authorities and orders couldn't emerge inherently. Meanwhile, peasants are gradually approaching to match with the modern country because of their increasingly modernity. The situation of the disintegration of rural community in contemporary rural society could be described of "structural chaos", which cannot be explained exactly by the ideal type of "Rural China" that rose by Fei-Xiaotong. Under such circumstances, rural society has needed to the state power infiltration deeply; also, the state has needed to enhance the infrastructural ability. In present, constructing a new cultural network what can make to the power infiltrate into rural society efficient is the important part of the construction of modern state, and more it can integrate the society through reconstruction of subject of local authority. Finally, the paper discussed the legal practice of rural society, and pointed out, the structural transformation of rural society has made the rural society raised a demand of official rules internally. Under the condition that traditional structure and rules could hardly rebuilt, national laws and the national power which is represented by the laws, although can't radically change the situation of chaotic structure, could contain the spread of the gangland in rural areas, keep basic order and justice, and help to form a steady new structure.
