The college entrance examination is bridge between college education and senior high school education. It is a hard issue which is faced for the worldwide reform of education. After a long period of historical the Joint College Entrance Examination in Taiwan (1954-2001), it accumulated compound experiences and valuable academic information. It brought about a widespread and profound influence on Taiwan education. It has both important academic and practical value such as reforming the college entrance examination in China, studying the development of Taiwan entrance examination.The thesis uses basic higher educational theory as guide, with the focus on the evolvement of the college entrance examination system. It mainly explores and analyses the Joint College Entrance Examination and the reformation of the Multiple Entrance policy in Taiwan. The study reveals the development laws and basic characteristics of the college entrance examination in Taiwan, and then makes use for reference to the Matriculation.The thesis divides into six chapter altogether. Exordium includes the proposition of problem, the significance, which regulates the research range and tasks, summarize the predecessor' s research result. Chapter two reviews the history and evolvement of the Joint College Entrance Examination (1954-2001), which focus on the examination methods, examination subjects and contents, admission system, admission agencies. Chapter three analyses the reform of the Diversified System of College Admissions (1992-2002), which consists of a few part that is reformation, development, advantages and disadvantages and so on. Chapter four discusses the Recommendation and Screening of colleges, which proves the availability of it. Chapter five analyses the basic theory of the college entrance examination and dissertates the influencing factors. Chapter six gives a more discussion on the references brought by evolvement and reform of the college entrance examination in Taiwan, looking forward to offering some references for policy establishment and practice reform of it.A large number of firsthand data are used to clarify the following views: 1. Admission systems of the Joint College Entrance Examination had four changes. From the foundation to the New Joint College Entrance Examination to the College Multiple Entrance, each stage set up different era' s characteristics. Examination methods and subjects of the college entrance examination had two changes. The first change is uniform examinations of the college entrance examination, under thetraditional unique standard, tests, propositions and reading examination papers become unite. The second change is the multiple test, which comprises the scholastic achievement test and designated subjects test, the aim was to make sure that candidates have the fundamental as well as specific knowledge required for college education. The admission agencies of the college entrance examination had four changes. From The Joint College Entrance Examination Committee to The College Entrance Examination Council of The Ministry of Education, to The College Admission Promotion Committee, to The College Admission Council League. The colleges take important part in the admission policies.2. The case study and many aspects theoretical analysis show that the manner based on the uniform examination and assisted multiple evaluating students are feasible.3. From the point of the examination rules, to insist on the uniform tests is the inevitable law and selection of the large-scale education examination. However, to persist in the principle followed by the select person with ability, that is objectivity, equity, just, open.4. The future development in the college entrance examination gives priority to the uniform basic knowledge tests, assists multiple means evaluating students' diversiform abilities, its spirits are to guide students to understand, accept themselves and develop their potentials.
