This dissertation focuses on studying of the Cultural Changes of the sTong-'khor Tibetans in Amdo, northeastern Tibetan plateau.sTong-'khor was named after the Tibetan Buddhist monastery of sTong-'khor which located at modern Huangyuan County of Xining city, Qinghai. It is an area where both the Han Chinese and the Tibetans have lived for centuries and where both agricultural and nomadic cultures have been very important.Tibetans used to be the dominant in the region but Han Chinese have become the majority since 15th century. Currently there are some 16,000 Tibetans and 120, 000 Han Chinese.During ancient times, it was called "the throat of the nomadic Tibetan area and the loess plateau of the Chinese agriculture " or " the cross road of Sino-Tibet" and it has long been the very important trade route of central Tibet and China proper.sTong-'khor has long been a multi-cultural region where Tibetans and Han Chinese are heavily influenced by each other in almost every area of their lives such as politics, economy, food, dress, living quarters, festival, marriage, address, funeral, religious etc.The primary disciplines introduced in this study are history, comparative-historical, statistical and cultural anthropology.
