The problem studied by this, paper is: "Why do MBA curriculums neglect business meral education on an individual level?" The purpose of this study is to find out how to better teach business moral education within a Chinese MBA curriculum. The term "Business moral education" in the title "On Business Moral Education as the Soul of MBA Curriculum: A 30-year Comparison of USA and China Practice (1974-2006)" means an education in life perspectives for MBA students. It is an effort to assist in continuing an adult student's personality development throughout the program. To create the "soul" of an MBA curriculum is to raise the concept of education in business morals from its current absentee status to one of the major purposes of a business education. In other words, this paper will study whether we should treat an MBA student's growth in his or her life perspective as a major component and purpose in business education. Is it possible? What are the obstacles? How should they be overcome? What is the practical feasibility of implementing a moral education in business? The research focuses on the students' needs — the need for personality development of MBA students in the workplace, which also translates into the need for personal growth in the practice of business morality. This study concentrates on MBA students from 25-35 years old and their life perspectives. What are the needs of a young business manager in terms of practicing morality in the business environment? Are there unhealthy influences that carry over from the low priority of individual level moral education in current MBA curriculum? How can those negative impacts be eliminated? The thesis of this paper is that business moral education should be the soul of business education, that is to say, a healthy life perspective regarding business at the individual level of each student should be the most important purpose of an MBA curriculum. MBA students in young adulthood need the constraining power of opposite values against excessive self interested motives to help them chose a healthy career direction; otherwise, they can be overwhelmed by the unconstrained pursuit of money implicitly taught in the current MBA curriculum. Without a comprehensive moral education, budding and inexperienced corporate managers might be in danger of falling into traps of moral recklessness and becoming involved in business scandals. This paper's key point is that young managers need a constraining power from an opposing set of values that attracts business leader against the self-interest motivation. The presupposition of this study is that the self-interest motive has its positive contribution--it is the driving force of capitalism, entrepreneurship, and business development; yet an unconstrained self-interest will be detrimental to a society's survival need of social order.
