The fluctuation of Sino-Taiwan relationship has deeply affected the intercommunion between their respective media. The difference in the political standpoint has elicited a lot of ideological interference to the news gathering and visiting activities. In April, 2005, the" Mainland Affairs Council "declared that Xinhua News Agency and People's Daily are banned from locally reporting in Taiwan, which can be a good case in point. In this paper, we want to get a better knowledge of what role the gate-keepers have taken on and what influence the ownership of the media has exerted on the news processing during the procession of news production. In addition, we want to probe into the difference between the real reality and the constructed realty by the media when the college students of these two different places are acquiring information from them. Moreover, to investigate whether they really care about the news of the counterparts and whether they trust the reality presented by the media, we carry out' the ensuing survey. In this survey, we have found out the following facts:1. Nearly 56 percent of the college students in Taiwan obtain information from TV, while 51 percent from the internet in its counterpart.2. Neither of the students in two places ranks high in the recognition level of the information about their counterparts. The average of Taiwanese is 4.27 and that of its counterpart 4.57. In regard to this fact, the journalists of these two places strike the common ground that the temporary college students are indifferent to the political issues and dislike serious subjects and beside that, the limitation of the length of news and coverage realm both contribute to the case.3. 43% of the Taiwanese students are interested in the news about the Chinese mainland, but 66% of their counterparts are interested in the news about Taiwan. Taiwanese students show keen on the news about economic construction and that relevant to industry, business and traveling. However, students in Chinese mainland are most interested in political news. The correspondents of both places attach importance to the political news because of the pressure from their superiors and that of the exposure rate in the newspapers.4. Owning to the opposing position between these two places, there are many restrictions of the news coverage and many journalists complain about their counterpart's news environment and hold the view that their reporting is more or less disturbed, thus holding back the normal exchanges between Taiwan and Chinese mainland, and what' more, preventing the audience/readers fromobtaining correct information.5. The journalists of both places maintain that there is a surplus of adverse subjects about the local news. But when we compare the two group of students' actual feeling, we find that Taiwanese students claim that the case is not quite different when the media of Taiwan report the news of Chinese mainland. And the students from Chinese mainland think that when it comes to the news about Taiwan, the media prefer adversely reporting. Through the Pearson Correlation Analysis, we find that, Taiwanese students maintain that Taiwanese media aisle prefer adversely reporting the news of Chinese mainland while they have forged a fairly good overall picture of Chinese mainland.6. Taiwanese students who have a right-side impression about Chinese mainland amounts to 17%. The proportion rises a little in the students of Chinese mainland, reaching 26%. As for the part needing improvement, Taiwanese students consider it to be human rights and democracy, while the profile of the government for their counterparts. As for journalists, those from Taiwan quite admire the progress of economy and infrastructure construction in Chinese mainland, but they also suggest filling the gap between the rich and the poor as well as improving the humanity qualities. Most of the journalists from Chinese mainland have a good view of Taiwan, but also argue that Taiwanese are apt to the political manipulation, and lack ration and are limited in their horizon.
