The quality reduction of undergraduate education has become a worldwide problem. Many countries except for China are committing themselves to the reform of undergraduate education. It is significant to study the reform experiences and empirical regularities in other countries which can help to smooth the undergraduate education reform in our country. This paper will first analysis and redefinition of the characteristic of knowledge and the relation between knowledge and education from the viewpoint of postmodern perspective on knowledge, and then on the basis of which I will study the change of perspective on knowledge and the reform process of teaching pattern in American universities, and analyze the influence mechanism between them. My study is based on the assumption that the change of perspective on knowledge is the underlying internal incentive of teaching pattern reform in American universities, taking history as a clue. Vertical compare is the main study method in my paper.The structure and main contents of this paper are as follows:First is the introduction to this paper, in which I will talk about the raise of study topic, main assumption, definition of the key words, studying significant and analyzing methods.And the assumption is that the changing of American perspective on knowledge is the radical reason which caused the reform of the mode of undergraduate teaching by changing the basic of rationality and validity.The subject of chapter one is that the conspectus of the relationship of knowledge and teaching. This chaper talks about the basic theory of my paper, including the sociality of knowledge from the viewpoint of postmodern perspective on knowledge,the change of relation between knowledge and education: Knowledge and education are not independent but interacting; knowledge influences education.The subject of chapter two is that American religionary perspective on knowledge and the early mode of the undergraduate teaching. This chapter expatiates the religionary attitudes to knowledge and the original form of teaching pattern in undergraduate education. First I will describe the background of religionary attitudes to knowledge in America and its connotation, then I will analyze the characteristics of teaching patterns in America universities influenced by the religionary attitudes to knowledge, including the teaching ideas, courses, teaching methods, teaching administration and teaching evaluation.The subject of chapter three is that American pragmatism perspective on knowledge and the revolution of the undergraduate teaching pattern. This chapter talks about the reform of teaching patterns in American universities under the influencing of pragmatism perspective on knowledge. First I will elaborate on the background of formation of pragmatism perspective on knowledge and its connotation, then I will analyze the characteristics of teaching patterns in America universities influenced by the practical attitudes to knowledge, also including the teaching ideas, courses, teaching methods, teaching administration and teaching evaluation.The subject of chapter four is that American neo-pragmatism perspective on knowledge and the new reform trends of the undergraduate teaching pattern. This chapter analyzes the trend of reform teaching patterns in American universities under the influencing of neo-pragmatism perspective on knowledge. First is the background description of neo-pragmatism perspective on knowledge, the difference between pragmatism perspective on knowledge and neo-pragmatism perspective on knowledge, and the connotation of neo-pragmatism perspective on knowledge, then is the analysis on the trend of reform of teaching patterns in American universities under the influencing of neo-pragmatism perspective on knowledge including the teaching ideas, courses, teaching methods, teaching administration and teaching evaluation.The subject of chapter five is that the influence mechanism of the changing of American perspective on knowledge and the reform of the undergraduate teaching pattern. This chapter demonstrates the influence mechanism between the changing of American perspective on knowledge and the reform of undergraduate teaching pattern. First, I analyze how the changing on nature of knowledge, value of knowledge, means of knowledge spreading and criterion of knowledge promote the reasonable reconstruction of teaching ideas, courses, teaching method and teaching evaluation. Then based on the analysis of mechanism, I illustrate how the changing of perspective on knowledge promotes the reform of validity basis of teaching patterns in American universities.The subject of chapter six is that the basic characteristics of the relationship of the American perspective on knowledge and the reform of the undergraduate teaching pattern and the inspiration to China reform of the undergraduate teaching. This chapter summarizes the characteristics of relations between changing on perspective on knowledge and reform on teaching patterns of undergraduate education, and concludes the apocalypse on reform of undergraduate education in our country.
