World-class curriculum system was the basis of top performance leveleducation.Undoubtedly;International curriculum comparison could widencurriculum views for first class level curriculum establishment .In order toinvestigate the features and insufficiencies of Shanghai chemistry curriculum,California was selected as the reference of this comparison research.As the politics,economy and culture center and curriculum reform pioneer ofAmerica,California had been ranked on the top line of America science education.Compared the chemistry curriculum between Shanghai and California would bevaluable reference to understanding two country curriculums and developingShanghai chemistry curriculum further.Focusing on the curriculum content,we classified chemistry curriculum contentas four modules,which were matter structure,matter state,matter property andmatter change.The main research contents of the thesis were curriculum extent,curriculum depth and curriculum difficulty.In process of curriculum extent comparison,Quality and quantity methods wereused to compare the extent and depth of Shanghai and California curriculum.Firstly,item numbers of chemistry curriculum were summed and Chi-square Test was usedto compare the distribution of items,as well as the deference source between the twocurriculums.Then,quality analyses of four modules were compared between thetwo curriculums,which found the content source of curriculum extent deferencebetween Shanghai and California.The main conclusions of extent of curriculumcomparison were that:(1)California curriculum extent was wider than that of Shanghai and,so didthe extent of each module.(2)Shanghai item distribution of chemistry curriculum was significant fromthat of California.(3)The most distinct deference module between extent of Shanghai and California curriculum was matter property,next were matter change and matter state.Extent deference of matter structure was lest.Curriculum depth was compared by quality and quantity methods too.Firstly,curriculum depth index was calculated,Secondly,Chi-test was used to compare theitems distribution,and lastly,four modules were analyzed to found the contentdeference between the two curriculums.Main conclusions were noted as follow:(1)Curriculum depth of California was slight deeper than that of Shanghai,sodid the depth of each module.(2)Curriculum distribution of California cognitive level was deferent from thatof Shanghai.(3)Main reasons of curriculum depth differences were that,Although"B"levelcurriculum contents of California was equal to Shanghai ,"A"level contents ofShanghai curriculum were more and"C"level contents were less.Chemistry curriculum difficulty model which has six factors and four levelswas established first to compare the curriculum difficulty between Shanghai andCalifornia.Comparison research of difficulty between Shanghai and Californiacurriculum were concluded that:(1)Curriculum difficulty of Shanghai was high than that of Californiacurriculum.(2)Two curriculums were equal on the factors of mathematic skill and topiccoverage,in addition,difficulty of Shanghai curriculum on factors of reason andmacro-micro-symbol was higher than that of California and was less than Californiaon factors of open degree and context.The differences between California and Shanghai curriculum were stem fromcurriculum influence and indirect culture context conations.Some curriculumreasons were considered to lead to these differences,which were curriculumassessment navigation,the influence of curriculum idea;succession of curriculumhistory,the elite education of California and the China policy of alleviate burdens.On the basis of curriculum comparison and Analysis,some advices were putforward to Shanghai curriculums,which were:(1)Establish the curriculum which emphasizes high standard and foundation equally.(2)Pay much attention to the alignment of curriculum.(3)Arrange the chemistry curriculum contents,such as balance the curriculumbetween four module contents,retreat the cross-discipline contents and keep pace toera development.
