The core of physical education reform lies in the innovation of the PE. curriculum content. "Physical Education Curriculum Guiding Outline for Common Institutes of Higher Learning in China" promulgated in 2002 brought brand-new idea to physical education, and changed our understanding of the PE. curriculum content. "Guiding Outline" points out that the main objective of college PE. curriculum is to "improve the fitness, health and sports cultivation". To achieve these targets, the best means is improving college students'exercising attitude, then we can promote their exercise behavior, and enhance their level of physical and mental health. Therefore when we carry out the PE. curriculum reform, the guiding ideology should be improving students'exercising attitude.Course theory indicates that college PE. curriculum includes two parts, namely, the dominant PE. curriculum and the recessive PE. curriculum. Integrating these two parts helps improve college students'exercising attitude, and helps us achieve the objective of college physical education. The "target pattern" provides us practical and efficient content organization forms of the dominant PE. curriculum. The "process pattern" and other follow-up advanced course idea pay great attention to the acquisition of fortuitous and nonstandard experience, and stress on building up an open and unformulated learning environment. These ideas are proper to organize the content of the recessive PE. curriculum. The constructivism, the concept reconstruction principle, the postmodernism and the well-approved scientific-humanism all reflect a kind of respect to the complexity of education process and the individual difference among the students. The content of PE. curriculum has different effects on different students whose characteristics are various.Based on theoretical studies, we designed three experiments to investigate the effects of PE. curriculum content on different college students. Except the factors such as gender, event preference, the individual differences are also identified in factors like fitness and sports ability or skills.Experiment No.1 was designed to investigate the effects of special content based on the skill level. Experiment No.2 tested the effects of several kinds of PE. curriculum contents on students with varied fitness states. Because there were some hidden characteristics and the result was difficult to quantify, experiment No.3 chose six representative subjects to carry out case study in order to detect the effects of the recessive P.E. curriculum content on students'exercising attitude. General conclusion that the study reaches are as follows:1. Curriculum content designed according to the skill level shows better effect on exercising attitude than normal content. What need more attention are the criteria for skill classification and the rationality of the special content.2. Increase systematic content of sports and health theory is helpful to-improve students' exercising attitude. But this improvement is not necessarily brought about the enhancement of fitness, because physical activity behavior is affected by many other factors.3. Content of fitness class includes sports knowledge, giving first place to carrying out exercise prescription; this kind of course is especially effective on improving the fitness and exercising attitude of physically weak students. And appropriate superintend measure on exercise is necessary to the "sound and age-appropriate physically weak college students". Because sufficient physical activities can give these students distinct exercise experience which is helpful to the improvement of exercising attitude.4. The recessive PE. curriculum content is related to material culture and spiritual culture. Case studies indicate that current college students have meticulous observation, thorough thinking and acute feeling about the recessive PE. curriculum content on campus. Some students require a lot. At the same time, some students have certain misunderstanding of campus sports atmosphere and the attention has been given to campus sports by the college administration. Being handled improperly, it will bring about negative effect on students'exercising attitude. Therefore, in order to improve the exercising attitude, we should reinforce the communication with college students, and ameliorate teachers'image, sports atmosphere, sports facilities and some other factors.5. The mechanisms that the dominant PE. curriculum and the recessive PE. curriculum affect students'exercising attitude are different from each other. Unless we bring both parts into the whole system of college PE. curriculum, and plan and develop them correspondingly, can we achieve the object of college physical education.
