Research Of The MAC Protocol In Mobile Ad Hoc Networks Based On Distributed Parallel Polling Access

In the past twenty years, rapid development and abroad application of computer and communication technology have greatly promoted the development of society. Computer communication network has been accelerated greatly by polling access protocols, which have been the standard of IEEE802.3, 802.11 and play an important role in Ethernet, Token Ring, Internet, WLAN and mobile communication networks.In the broadband telecommunications region, Ad Hoc network is a fast developing network. In designing an Ad Hoc network, its multiple access schema is very important for its self-organizing character. The typical multiple access methods are fixed, random and polling multiple access. Nowadays, most multiple access methods in the distributed wireless networks are based on the random multiple access with collision avoidance and collision resolution. Random access technology can overcome the resource wastage in the fixed allocation multiple access method. However, when the number of users or traffic in the network increasing, the probability of collision will grow, which will increase the average waiting time of the packets, and make the throughput of network low. The traditional polling scheme can avoid collision and insure stable system throughput when the number of nodes and system load are heavy enough. But when the system load is small or traffic is unbalanced, the polling scheme increases the average waiting time inversely because of its non-selectivity. Hence, the research on multiple access methods is critical to the performance of Ad Hoc networks, and the multiple access protocols based on polling schema is researched in depth in this thesis.This thesis researches on several important problems in depth: The establishment of mathematical model and the equations of relative performance parameters, which can provide the theoretical proof for the applications and performance test of varies MAC protocols.
