Image quality is one of the key properties of the display quality issues. It's the focus of the competition in the high-end display market. The degree to which an image satisfies the usefulness and naturalness requirements determines the quality of image. Currently the requirement of the display image quality has varied to the impressive image creation from the information fidelity reproduction. It brings great challenge to the industry because the impact of psychological factors has not been involved in during display development.Display image quality quantitive assessment is the primary task to the high-end display development. However, image quality requirements can not be evaluated and clarified is as easily as other properties because of ambiguity and the subjective factors. This paper deals with the research on modeling the image quality requirement analysis and developing a quantified approach to image quality effect factors identification and control. In perspective of video processing, vision physiology and psychology analysis, a new method to improve the image quality and the application to the display development during life cycle is explored. The main contributions are focused on as follow:(1) Based on the understanding of the concept of image quality, the model of image quality requirement analysis is proposed according to the fuzzy logic theory in order to identify the relationship between the imprecise requirements. Hierarchical structure is proposed to mapping the requirements from the top level to the display techniques.(2) The attributes of the image quality requirement are partitioned according to the visual perception characteristics. The factor analysis method is applied to obtain the preference of the properties of the image quality. The adequacy of image is evidenced to be the top requirement issues.(3) The effect factors of the image quality are identified combining the analysis of the video processing chain, and the cause-effect graph concerning the vision characteristics is set up. The relationships between the requirements are deduced to providing the foundation of the image quality level definition and testing.(4) The test and assessment method based on image quality requirement is proposed and developed in order to realize the requirements transition. The critical factors to image quality are identified by regression test and analyzed by priority judgement systematically. Moreover the effects of the subjective factors during testing and assessment are eliminated greatly.(5) The control and management of the critical factors of image quality is defined as the goal of the process improvement according to the CMM?I guidelines. Based on the of image quality requirement level to be achieved in each phase of life cycle, the involved test items and the corresponding criteria are allocated to each phase of display development life cycle which to be the assurance to the meet the image quality requirements.
