Tongzhitang Classics Interpretation, 1860 volumes, including 140 species ancient literatrue is a significant Confucian classics series of books, which was compiled and block-printed in the early time of Qianlong period in Qing Dynasty. Among the 140 species Classics Interpretation, Song, Yuan Dynasties' works accounted for 130, therefore, the above series of books is also known as Song, Yuan Dynasty Classics Interpretation.Tongzhitang Classics Interpretation was block-printed by Xu Qianxue, although was signed in the name of Tongzhitang, although the end of most volumes of Tongzhitang Classics Interpretation was marked by "revised by junior scholar of Chengde". Xu Shi relinquished the signature to NaLan Chengde for political reasons . Xu Qianxue whose style name was Yuan Yi and alternative name was Jian'an, was born in Kunshan in Jiangnan .He is the first in the national civil service examination during the third degree candidate in the nine-year reign of Emperor Kangxi and served as the Minister of Board of Punishments. He had written the general studies after reading ceremony,the later version of the Mirror,Dan Yuan corpus and so on more than thirty writings. Moreover, he was voluminous and had a library named Chuanshi whose collections was in the first rank at home. He published substantial series books in addition to Tongzhitang Classics Interpretation . He was also a famous scholar and bibliographer in the early of Qing Dynasty.Tongzhitang Classics Interpretation that was compiled and published in the era when was the academic transition period in the early Qing Dynasty had a specific academic background. Classics Interpretation was block-printed from the twelfth year of Kangxi, and the main part was accomplished in the nineteenth year of Kangxi. Since then the fraction remaining Classics Interpretation was engraved , at the same time, the ground work was to revise. From Twenty-nine years of emperor Kangxi to thirty-one years, all the revising and printing task rounded off. The edited Classics Interpretation was put into print at any moment during the process of collation and print of Classics Interpretation.Vast multitudes of persons participated in the large-scale of compiling of Tongzhitang Classics Interpretation. Its original text source are from Mao learning the ancient Tower, Fan Tianyi Pavilion, Shu Gu Tang of Qian Zeng and so on in addition to Chuan Shi Lou of Xu Qianxun.There were a multitude of emendators including Jia Ding Zhang Yun Zhang,Kun Shan Xu Bingyi,and Chang Zhou He Zhuo besides Tai Cang Gu Mei. As a matter of fact, near 500 carvers participated in it, most of whom were active in Jiangsu Province. Tongzhitang Classics Interpretation collected abundant ancient books, many of which are indeed important and rare. These old scriptures provided a wealth of new information for contemporary and futural study of Confucian classics and expanded the scope of the study of Confucian classics. Tongzhitang Classics Interpretation which contributed much to the study of Confucian classics of the Qing Dynasty was widely used by scholars for prospective generations to study. As a series of Confucian classics, Tongzhitang Classics Interpretation assembled Songs Yuan old scriptures of the study of Confucian classics, not only did it inherit Thirteen Classics of Confucian, but also it initiated Classics Interpretation of Yi Jing Tang,Jing Yuan and Classics Interpretation of Qing Dynasty. Meanwhile Tongzhitang Classics Interpretation paid much attention to the original text and adopted the good edition of Song Dynasty and Yuan Dynasty. Classics Interpretation was fairly exquisite in printing quality, served as original editions of Tongzhitang Classics Interpretation, which represented the typical style of block-printed books in the beginning period of Qing Dynasty. Si Ku Quan Shu,Si Ku Hui Yao and later transcription,printed edition and photocopy of old scriptures frequently took Tongzhitang Classics Interpretation as original editions. As a result, Tongzhitang Classics Interpretation plays an important role both in the Study of Confucian Classics and Edition.Tongzhitang Classics Interpretation has three editiong after origin edition in Kangxi years. The House minister of Si Ku Quan Shu revised the version and reprinted it in Qianlong fiftieth by the imperial decree .The second is Guangdong press in Tongzhi twelfth. And Da Tong bookstore in Tai Bei photocopied it in 1969 according to the origin edition.The dissertation will respectively probe Tongzhitang Classics Interpretation' s printers printing of era backgrounds the intention,the conditions and the process from the version perspective and summary the general features and historical status of Tongzhitang Classics Interpretation. As the main body, the thesis focus on research on editions of the 140 books embraced in Tongzhitang Classics Interpretation and clean up their origin and development one by one through the description of the book,the relevant records of previous proofreading and supplemented by other methods than collation by which we make an attempt to speculate the origin edion of the 140 books and the later version influences of the Tongzhitang Classics Interpretation edion. At the meantime the author also pay much attention to the other major versions in order to make clear the position of the 140 books in the circulation of print. The above part is also the foundation of overview of Classics Interpretation on which we can summary the characteristics and the evaluation of Tongzhitang Classics Interpretation.
