Service innovation has become an important approach to enhancing competitiveness and responding to customer customized demand for financial enterprises. While a large percentage of them are facing many problems on service innovation. In theory, the use of a modular approach to start service innovation has become an important research direction. As an exploratory study, this dissertation based on the theories of service innovation, modularization and strategic flexibility, tries to analyze the construct of modularization Innovation within financial service, summarize the innovation process mechanism, and explore the influence mechanism on innovation performance. With the methods of literature review, exploratory case studies and large sample empirical study, this dissertation combines qualitative and quantitative approach, answers the following three research questions step by step: what is the meaning and elements of modularization Innovation within financial service? How it happens and processes? How it influence the innovation performance of financial enterprise? What is the relationship between it and organization modularization?Through the above research, this dissertation gets five main conclusions as follow:(1)Modularization innovation within financial service points to the connotation of using modular thought and method, architecting financial service product system and process system, improving the financial service quality and efficiency. The extensions of the concept are financial service product modularization and process modularization. The scale of the concept is proposed and has good reliability and validity.(2)The precipitating dynamics of Modularization Innovation within financial service includes customers and competitors factors. Innovation strategy, flexible organizations and technology base are recognized as enabling dynamics. The innovation process includes four stages of concept development, architecture design, module design, delivery and improvement, which consists eight steps of Demand found, concept definition, function match, interface definition, module development, system integration, service introduction and services improvement in detail.(3)Modularization innovation within financial service has a positive effect on innovation performance. Based on empirical study on 152 samples of financial enterprises, this dissertation finds that, financial service product modularization and process modularization have significantly positive effects on innovation performance. For Chinese financial enterprises, the process modularization plays a more important role in achieving innovation performance(4)The strategic flexibility plays a mediator role between modularization innovation and its performance. To specific, there are three pathways:financial services product modularization through competitive speed on innovation performance; financial services through competitive variety and competitive speed on innovation performance.(5)Organization modularization plays a positive moderate role on the relationship product modularization and innovation performance. While the negative moderate role on the relationship process modularization and innovation performance is not supported by empirical study, which implies that it is not the more organization integration, the more beneficial to financial service process modularization.Throughout the whole dissertation, there are four innovative theoretical contributions:(1)It's an exploration on the relationship among modularization innovation, strategic flexibility and innovation performance within financial enterprise. This dissertation constructs a theoretical framework of Modularization, strategic flexibility and innovation. Lots of existing researches view the strategic flexibility as a complementary capability for enterprise to obtain innovation performance. While this dissertation empirically proves that Strategic flexibility is a key intermediary and find out three paths from modularization to innovation performance. As a whole, this research explained the modularization innovation performance mechanism from the logic relation of behaviour, capability and performance.(2)It's a complement of existing researches on the relationship between administrative innovation and technological innovation under the context of modularization innovation. This dissertation support the organization modularization is beneficial to acquirement of product modularization innovation performance. While the negative moderate effect on process modularization is not proven, and this dismiss the poplar view of organization integration benefiting process modularization. So this research makes complementary contribution to enterprise modularization system theory.(3)It's an enrichment of financial service innovation process theory for put forward dynamic mechanism and process model of Modularization innovation within financial service. Although in the existing researches, service modularization has become a new topic, while some basic but crucial important problems are in lack of in-depth research. This dissertation analyzes the process mechanism of Modularization innovation within financial service from the aspects of Precipitating dynamics, enabling dynamics and process model. It enriches traditional financial service innovation theory and has relative importance to service modularization theory.(4)It's a proposition of the construct of modularization innovation within financial service. Based on strict theoretical analysis, this dissertation proposes the concept and elements of modularization innovation within financial service. It is helpful to correct the bias of viewing service modularization just as service process modularization, beneficial to overcome the problems of vague to comprehend and difficult to measure in existing researches, and makes the promotion of scrupulously quantitative research on service modularization.
