There is a worldwide concern about the problems of the quality of accounting information in recent years. The choice of accounting policies has a significant impact on the quality of accounting information. The growing shortage of oil energy caused rapidly increased oil prices, and consequently the jumping profits of oil producing companies. Investors are scrambling for oil industry, so there roses an unprecedented focus on the quality of oil companies'accounting information from all societies. Therefore, more and more emphasis is laid on the study on accounting for oil and gas. Study on the oil companies'accounting policies is key to oil and gas accounting. Many domestic experts have conducted the studies from different aspects, but such studies are just confined to certain regulations, methods and procedures, rather than in a overall and systematic view. This thesis systematically studies the evolution, current status and future direction in the reform of Chinese oil companies'accounting policies. In order to provide a guidance for regulating oil companies'accounting work and improving the quality of accounting information, this thesis is aimed to reveal the evolving path of Chinese oil companies'accounting policies and the motivation of the change, to analyze the main force affecting oil companies'choice of accounting policies and its general rules, to explore the differences and causes between domestic accounting policies and those of foreign oil companies, to dig out the penetration point of reform and its evolving path.Utilizing historical and comparative analysis and view of institutional economics and game theory, this thesis unearthned problems underlying oil companies'current accounting policies and provides effective proposals for solution on basis of a careful study of the evolution, the current status and variances of the three major listed oil companies'accounting policies, and the special accounting policies for the creation, operation and information disclosure of listed companies. This thesis reaches a conclusion: the choice of accounting policies is closely connected with their accounting environment.
