Along with the progress of the economic globalization, the international division of labor, which is led by multinational corporations according to the arrangement of value chain, has brought many challenges as well as opportunities to China economy, and it even could be threat to the safety of China economy. Therefore we must adopt the suitable measures. Because China will participate in the international division of labor in a wider scope after joining the WTO, so we must understand the new characteristics of the present-day international division of labor, and find the appropriate way of participation. The industrial structure of a country is closely linked with the development of the international division of labor in the present time of economic globalization. Many problems still exit in our present industrial structure, so it is necessary to find the suitable strategy for developing China's industry and adjust China's industrial structure appropriately.This thesis firstly introduces the evolution of the international division of labor, elaborates the background of its development in the present time, and sum up its new trends and characteristics. Since 1990s, the world economy has experienced some new trends and features, such as economic globalization, the rapid development of informational technology, the knowledge economy and so on. All this gives the present-day international division of labor a new background. Nowadays the international division of labor has exhibited some new features: Its structure becomes a network; its forms become diversified; its subjects are pluralized; its basis becomes more scientific; its mechanism becomes more negotiable.This thesis then introduces the basic pattern of the present-day international division of labor, and analyzes the reasons of the pattern's formation. This thesis examines the status of developing countries and distribution of interests in the present-day international division of labor.
