Business process change has a long history. Industrial revolution begun in the late 18th century has led people to start thinking about the organization of production processes. In the early 19th century, Henry Ford created their production processes to achieve the dream that the American middle class can own their cars, their success was regarded as the classics of business process change. In the 1990s, business process reengineering (BPR), known as the "third management revolution" swept globally. Some large and medium-sized enterprises have conducted BPR, with a view to obtain improved performance significantly. In the late 1990s, the emergence of the Internet, E-mail and Web attracted the enterprises. As a new business model based on computer and network technology, the emergence of e-commerce not only have changed the way that the enterprises sell their products and provide their services, but also have changed the mode of business operation. As a result, fundamental shocks have been brought about to the business processes of the traditional enterprises. This paper focuses on the business process change of the traditional enterprises under electronic business environment. Business process change, traditional enterprises and electronic business are the three key words. The main points of research and innovative content are as follows:1. Based on the Porter's value chain model, the enterprise value chain model under the e-business environment has been proposed and enterprise production activities under e-business environment are discussed. The stage model of e-commerce application, which is divided into four levels, is proposed to illustrate the different impact of e-commerce on business processes. The purpose of the survey related to the Shanghai enterprises was to understand the situation of the e-business applications and the impact of e-business on the business processes.2. On the basis of the research for BPR and and the practices for the transition of e-business, the paper explored the concept, features and content of e-businessprocesses change and proposed the model of e-business processes change. The model includes strategic planning, process analysis, process design and the assessment of change.3. BPR has been questioned for its high failure rates, and the lack of strategic planning is one of the main reasons. After analyzing the significance of strategic planning, strategic planning process model and the critical success factors are proposed, and the applications of knowledge management are discussed in the strategic planning process.4. Process analysis is the prerequisite for the process design. Process modeling, which includes as-is modeling and to-be modeling, is the basis for process analysis. The basic methods for process modeling were discussed, and the IDEF0 modeling methodology was used to describe the construction project management processes in order to explain how to change the business processes of the enterprises.5. Business processes redesign within the enterprise value network will become an important part of e-business processes change. The business process redesign within enterprise, inter-enterprise process design and B2C process redesign have been explored respectively.6. As investment and returns analysis of e-business processes change has qualitative and quantitative, long-term and short-term, tangible and intangible characteristics, the analysis is extremely difficult. Based on different levels of the change, the paper analyzed the investment and returns of e-business process change and then discussed the analysis methods of investment and returns.7. According to the model and the related literature, the success factors for e-business process change have been proposed. Three cases of change for traditional enterprises have been analyzed in order to explore the role that these factors have played in the course of change. The innovations of this paper are as follows:1. On the basis of the concept of enterprise value networks, business processes redesign within the enterprise value network was proposed, especially B2B process design. The business process redesign under the e-business environment are no longer confined to internal process design, cross-enterprise process design and B2C processdesign have become the focus of e-business process change.2. It is proposed for knowledge management to be applied to strategic planning of e-business process change. As bridges to link stages of strategic planning, knowledge management plays a very important role in strategic planning.3. Based on the Porter's value chain model, the enterprise value chain model under the e-business environment has been proposed to illustrate the impact of e-business on the processes. The model describes the basic activities and support activities of the enterprises under the e-business environment.
