Research On Relationship Between Entrepreneurial Failure And Entrepreneurial Knowledge Transformation Model

After reviewing a great many literatures on entrepreneurial learning, Politis's entrepreneurial learning model suggests that entrepreneurial knowledge come from entrepreneurial experience, and the transforming process moderated by knowledge transformation model. Furthermore, Politis's model brings forward that entrepreneurial consequence, ether success or failure, may affect entrepreneurs'preference to one of the two knowledge transformation model. In detail, Politis reckons that entrepreneurial failure may, to some extent, determines which knowledge transformation model can be adopted.The goal of this dissertation is to verify and develop Politis's model. Before examining the relationship between entrepreneurial failure and entrepreneurial transformation, effort has been made to develop the measure method of entrepreneurial knowledge. Entrepreneurial knowledge is a foundation for newly-developed entrepreneurship theory. Furthermore, almost all the entrepreneur theories take entrepreneur knowledge as their core concepts. However, research focused on entrepreneurial knowledge is rarely seen in the literature. In fact, the property, measuring method and producing mechanism of entrepreneurial knowledge are attractive and challenging. In addition, though researchers and practitioners stress failure as a key element on the entrepreneurship studying process, there is only theoretical assumptions and no empirical test about the failure in entrepreneurship studying. In order to solve the deficiency about entrepreneurship studying research in the two aspects, this research focuses on entrepreneurial knowledge and entrepreneurial failure and does explorative work on the entrepreneurial learning theory. This research does not integrate all existing theories about entrepreneurial learning but endeavors to extend Politis's entrepreneurial learning model. The conclusions of this research are as following: 1 ) Setting up a proper business model can be a method of systematic rent-generating. Business model, especially its foundation level, is easy to be copied by antagonist. With the prevalence of this rent-generating business model, its ability of rent-generating gets weakened. So, knowledge about business model is a kind of entrepreneurial knowledge.2) According the unpredictable extent of entrepreneurial incident and the degree of organizational constraining to retrieval, entrepreneurial failure can fall into four kinds, namely type of shift gears, type of shake, type of fade-away and type of tardiness. In addition, the cause of entrepreneurial failure can be ether entrepreneurial experience scarcity or resource limitation.3)Evidences support the opinion that entrepreneurial failure has a learning effect. Entrepreneurial failure will influence entrepreneurial knowledge learning through the experience-knowledge transforming model. Additionally, the style of entrepreneurial failure will influence experience-knowledge transforming model. Among that, unpredictable nature of entrepreneurial failure is an important factor influencing entrepreneur adopting explorative knowledge transforming model.This research stresses on both deduction and empirical generalization. Through conduction and generalization, the research analyzes entrepreneurial knowledge features and exhibits kinds and producing process of entrepreneurial knowledge. Through evolutionary game, the research shows that socialization is one of the natures of entrepreneurial learning, proving that entrepreneurial knowledge can be measured and entrepreneurial failure can influence experience-knowledge transforming model. In the empirical part, in-depth interview, questionnaires survey, multi-cases analysis and seminar scenario-simulation experimentation are adopted, making some new tries on entrepreneurial learning research.Main innovation of the research is as following:1)Testing the factor relationship among Politis's model and acquiring experience proof of entrepreneurial learning effect, in addition, condition simulation experiment finds that entrepreneurial event exert its function through influencing experience-knowledge transforming model, research shows that failure results always make entrepreneur using explorative knowledge transforming model.2)Following conclusion can be made through theory generalization.: social nature of entrepreneurial learning is manifest, and the fundamental task of that is to balance explorative and exploitative activities and so it can produce rent-potential entrepreneurial knowledge, from that, the research points that social nature makes entrepreneur studying different with adaptive studying. This deepens existing theory's understanding towards uniqueness of entrepreneurial learning.3 ) Generalizing basic concept of entrepreneur knowledge, deepening the understanding of entrepreneurial knowledge to some extent. Putting forward an opinion that business model knowledge is a kind of entrepreneurial knowledge, which extending the two category theory about entrepreneurial knowledge in the Politis's entrepreneurial learning model, so the research provides a new angle for entrepreneur studying research. In addition, the research develops a measuring tool for subjective entrepreneurial knowledge and tests its psychometrical attributes, which can supplies a good borrowing element for related research.
