Tea is one of the important cash-crops in China. The tea industry is of vital importance for the development of Chinese agriculture and countryside. Since 1949, tea has been one of the main exporting products of our country. The tea industry has gained remarkable progress since 1978, and it has played an important role in the world tea industry. However, with China's entry into WTO, the tea industry in China is faced with overall international competition. As the trend of economic globalization increasingly strengthens, the marketing trend and WTO's policy framework will have a crucial and profound effect on Chinese tea industry. As a big tea producing and consuming power, China will confront great opportunities and challenges. Therefore, it is of theoretical and practical importance to conduct systematical economic analysis of Chinese tea industry, to explore its internal developing law and operation mechanism, to analyze the effects that China's entry into WTO brings to Chinese tea industry and tea market, to excavate the room for the development of tea industry under the WTO's policy framework for agriculture, and to put forward some operable and pertinent policies and suggestions based on the above studies.The dissertation applies the theories of economics, agricultural economics, international trade, industry economics, regional economics, technological economics and operational research and adopts the methods of combining normative analysis with positive analysis, quantitative analysis with qualitative analysis, micro-analysis with macro-analysis, statistic analysis, comparative analysis and econometric models. By means of the above methods, this dissertation, based on the household management, explores the intrinsic law in the development of Chinese tea industry and its policy implications from the standpoint of economics, and finally establishes a theoretical framework for Chinese tea industry to provide the tea industry with scientific theoretical guidelines and policy-decision references.The dissertation consists of nine chapters. Chapter 1 (the prelude) points out the purpose and significance of the study, gives an overview home and abroad, and introduces the basic ideas, research methods and the structure of the dissertation. Chapter 2 analyzes the general situation of the global tea industry, the distribution and the development trend of the worldwide tea industry. A summary of the historical and current situations, challenges and the developing trend of Chinese tea industry are also given in this chapter. Chapter 3 deals with the changes and its characteristics of Chinese tea industry at the angle of supply, and then analyzes the TFP, technical efficiency and scale efficiency of Chinese tea industry by using data envelop approach. Chapter 4 examines the consumer's behavior on the basis of demand, predicts the market capacity of Chinese tea consumption and proposes corresponding policies. In chapter 5, the history of the tea circulation system and policy in China is reviewed to illustrate the features of tea circulation. Furthermore, this chapter shows the main problems in Chinese tea industry and makes an outlook to the future of the tea circulation.Chapter 6 introduces the trade pattern of worldwide and Chinese tea at the angle of international trade. Chapter 7 analyzes the general and regional comparative advantage and the export competitiveness of Chinese tea industry to reveal the regularity of comparative advantage change in Chinese tea industry and to find out the ranking of its export competitiveness and regional comparative advantage in the world market. Chapter 8 systematically analyzes the state macro-control policies for Chinese tea industry. On the premise of the awareness of the necessity and goal of the state's macro-control policies for the tea industry, it proposes how to set up a macro-supporting system and legislative security system. In more details, the government should support the development of the tea industry from sides of international trade, input, market, tea safety standard and detection. Meanwhile, Chinese government should strengthen the legislation concerning agriculture, trade, market entity, tea technology and plant quarantine to safeguard the fine and virtuous development of the tea industry. The last chapter summarizes the conditions of Chinese tea industry from different points of view and reaches conclusions. Also in this chapter, the dissertation points out the weaknesses of the study and contents for refinement in the future.
