Research on issue of living environment is of great importance in landscape and urban planning discipline. The city, as the main place inhabited by modern humans, is an significant part of research object concerning issue of living environment. Urban landscape pattern is considered as the landscape unit within the city spatial structure and the ecological process those landscape units lead to in landscape ecology. The city is facing problems of functional deficits, the impact of ecological damage and others that affect the quality of urban living environment, mostly due to irrational urban landscape pattern that weakens the ecological, economic and social functions. Therefore, a good urban landscape pattern is the guarantee for the urban living environment of high quality. Through the ages, cities were built near water, boomed from water and developed because of water; thus, water system has become the key to the survival and development of a city. In different periods of city development, water system plays diverse roles in changing urban landscape pattern of the time. Starting with each period of city development, it is of significant theoretical and practical value to study how water system impact the urban landscape for the construction and optimization of urban landscape pattern during the process of urbanization. To study how water system impact urban landscape pattern, the following questions have to be solved:1)changes of functions of water system in different period of city development; 2) how can water system affect these functions with its own characteristics? 3) under different perspective, what kind of effect does water system exert on urban landscape?Based on these issues, drawing on existing research, taking system science and landscape ecology, using mathematical model construction method, adopting "urban water system---urban landscape pattern" relation analysis model, with the help of GIS and RS technological platform, this thesis extracts satellite remote sensing data of year 1984,1996,2009 and 2015. Using qualitative and quantitative methods, focusing on three aspects--- the impact of urban water network on the urban landscape pattern, the impact of urban water system in urban areas dominated by different functions on the urban landscape pattern, and the impact of different rivers on its surrounding landscape pattern---adopting Grey Relational Analysis Mathematical Methods, taking Chengdu city for study, it takes qualitative analysis during four typical periods (the beginning of the reform and opening-up, the transformation of urban development, rapid formation of metropolis under overall urban-rural development policy and in-depth development of metropolis in the concept of ecological civilization) to see how urban water system exert an impact on the evolution and mechanism of urban landscape through its own influence factors (the area, perimeter, width of water and its morphological index). This thesis is divided into five parts. The first part, chapter one and two, includes introduction and basic theory carding. The second part, chapter three, is the systematical analysis of the history of the relationship of water and city. The third part, chapter four, explains the theoretical framework and technical means of the relation analysis model of "urban water system---urban landscape pattern". The fourth part, chapter five to eight, taking Chengdu city as the study object, using mathematical models to analyze and conclude the "water-city relationship". The fifth part, chapter nine, is the conclusion and prospect.Chapter one, the introduction, contains the research background, basic concepts, research methods and technical route of urban living environment and "water-city relationship".Chapter two, the theoretical foundation, includes the definition of subtypes of "water-city relationship" and its theoretical results at home and abroad. With detailed description of the study on "sea-city relationship", "river-city relationship" and "water system-city relationship", this thesis finds the absence of existing research and takes Chengdu city as the main research object. Meanwhile, from the perspective of landscape ecology, it reviews and summarizes the basic characteristics, research results, research achievements and main methods of urban landscape pattern.Chapter three is the analysis collation of the "water-city relationship" in the historical process. Systematical analysis and collation of "water-city relationship" is made, firstly the river system’s influence on site selection of city formation, the development and the rise and fall of the city; and secondly river system’s influence on urban landscape pattern separately in ancient times, modern period and contemporary period. The functions of river system in the city development are found and its relying elements---the river system’s own material conditions are refined.Chapter four is the theoretical framework process of "river system---urban landscape pattern". The "urban water system- urban landscape pattern" relation analysis model is formed through appropriate model from time and space perspective and mathematical methods with the help of various types of impact factors of urban landscape pattern extracted from the previous chapters.Chapter five to eight are the application process for the model. Based on "urban water system-urban landscape pattern" relation analysis model, this thesis, taking Chengdu as the research object, makes a in-depth analysis of Chengdu river system’s impact on Chengdu urban landscape pattern from three perspective:the impact on the overall urban landscape pattern from the urban water system; the impact on the city districts from urban water system; and the impact on the surrounding areas from single rivers.Chapter nine, conclusion and prospects, narrates main conclusions, theoretical contribution and future study of the subject.
