Supramolecular chemistry, which focuses on the non-covalent interactions demonstrates the high value in numerous areas. Meanwhile it is a highly active and large field with several overlapping research areas. Host-guest chemistry and self-assembly are the most important concepts of this subject. This chemistry and its potential uses are therefore dependent on both the molecules involved and the forces holding them together. Our research focus on the multi-component host-guest complexes, including the determination of binding manners and association constants, competitive interactions between molecules, influence of the host-guest systems, etc. A brief summary is given below:In chapter1, the basic development and application of host-guest chemistry are reviewed. In chapter2, one calixarene-based host and two guest compounds were designed and prepared. Both guests can bind with calixarene to form pseudorotaxanes. The different binding stations, binding manners and association constants were fully studied. Charge transfer interactions were the main binding forces between hosts and guests. Based on the stable pseudorotaxanes, one novel rotaxane were succeefully synthesized. In chapter3, one "V" type guest compound was designed and prepared, only one end was available for both β-cyclodextrin and cucurbit[7]uril. But the binding manners and association constants were totally different. In the multi-component systems, β-CD was repelled by CB[7] led to the enhancement of fluorescence intensity. In chapter4, One-binding-site guest and Two-binding-site guest were synthesized. Both guests can bind with p-sulfonatocalixarene to form host-guest assemblies. The different binding manners were fully studied. Host induced competitive interactions between different parts of guest were confirmed. In chapter5, One bromonaphthalene based guest polymer, two cyclodextrin based host polymers and one water soluble azobenzene compound were designed and prepared. The room temperature phosphorescence (RTP) of guests can be induced by a-CD not β-CD. First non-metal RTP gel was prepared, whose RTP intensity can be totally controlled by water-soluble azobenzene. In chapter6, Spiropyran coated gold nano rods (GNR) and gold nano particles (GNP) were prepared. The photochromic properties of spiropyran can affect the Plasmon peaks of GNRs but not GNPs.
