With goal of high efficiency comprehensive utilization of low grade diatomite ore, thediatomite beneficiation process and pilot-scale experiments were conducted using an innovativelaminar flow centrifugal process combined with scrubbing dispersion. The mechanisms ofscrubbing dispersion and centrifugal separation were studied by pure mineral tests. Using purifieddiatomite as carriers, two environmental functional composite materials (nano TiO2/diatomite andnano zero-valent iron (nZVI)/diatomite) were prepared, and the relationships between structureand performance were explored. Finally, the optimum conditions of separation technology for lowgrade diatomite were obtained, and the SiO2content of purified diatomite reached88.19%and theyield was up to79.56%; The process design of demonstration production line was put forward; The mechanisms of the scrubbing dispersion and laminar flow centrifugal separation wereexplained; Moreover, it is concluded that the more uniform the distribution of nano TiO2particlesdispersed on the surface of diatom, the smaller the grain size. The better the integrity of thecarriers as well as the higher the purity of diatomite, the better the photocatalytic properties ofnano TiO2/diatomite composites; The degradation rate for simazine of the nZVI/diatomitecomposite materials prepared by centrifugation-reduction method was up to80%. In conclusion, the key technical foundation of comprehensive utilization with high efficiency of the low andmiddle grade diatomite resources was established.
