Oxyfluoride glasses and glass ceramics are excellent luminescent materials due to their superior properties such as high fluorescence efficiency just like REs in the fluoride crystals and good mechanical stability just like the oxide glass. The present study for the materials mainly focus on the aspects of luminescence and fluoride nanocrystal structure. However, it is not satisfied with the study about microstructure of the glass matrix and the relationship of composition, microstructure and luminescence. In this paper, on the basis of micro-structure and silicon oxygen tetrahedrons vibration modes, the effects of Al2O3on micro-structure are investigated by Fourier transform infrared spectra and Raman spectra. The connectivity between Al2O3and [SiO4] tetrahedron bridge oxygen in the formation of oxyfluoride galss is discussed. The glass network micro-structure is analyzed at the atomic level. The role of heavy metal ions in the formation of oxyfluoride galss and glass ceramics is investigated. The result will be of great significance to control glass network structure, promote material properties and fabricate transparent oxyfluoride glasses and glass ceramics.Based on controlling the glass network structure, nucleation and crystallization properties of oxyfluoride glass ceramics are researched. The effects of Al2O3and CdF2on nucleation and growth of nanocrystals are investigated. It is significant for controlling crystallization. Finally, for the luminescence properties of rare earth ions with different energy levels, suitable materials are selected in orded to improve luminescence efficiency. The luminescent properties and laser parameters of Nd+doped oxyfluoride glass are researched in order to expand the application of this kind of materials in the field of solid-state lasers. Upconversion luminescence properties of Er3+/Yb3+co-doped oxyfluoride glass ceramics also are analyzed. The material with efficient red upconverion emission present perspective technological application in devices such as biological fluorescence probe, three-dimensional displays, lasers and so on.
