Mechanical manufacturing industry is pillar industry of national economy, the field of machine tools attracts greatly concerns, which represents modern CNC machining technology. However, they usually have series structure, which means the rigidity and precision are affected. So it is a core technology to enhance the accuracy of five-axis machine tools by error compensation method.In the paper, the error compensation for the large five-axis machine tool, which is used to machine airplane’s key parts, are researched. The main research process and results are as follows:1. As the existing error model of 5-axis machine tool cannot reflect the random character of errors, which may make the compensation not coincide with the actual situation, the character of geometric errors is analysed, and multi-rigid-body random geometric error model is built. Considering about the efficiency and the cost of compensation, it is necessary to find out impact factor of all errors which affect on the comprehensive error. So the Analysis of comprehensive error’s decoupling is conducted and a novel algorithm based on Monte Carlo method is presented, which is good for later measurement and compensation.2. According to meet the requirements for measurement and compensation, high accuracy measurement systems are constructed, which involves in high precision equipments, for example, laser interferometer, laser track, laser sensor and double ball bar. Then the systems are evaluated by PUMA, and it proves that the systems have sufficiently accuracy and feasibility.3. As the data is captured in the form of array point and compensation needs optional position’s information, so the method of data generation is researched, which provide the data for compensation.4. The experiment without load shows the validity of error measurement’s and compensation’s principles. And the experiment of compensation processing on S curved surface part machining on a five axis machine tool proves the availability of whole research.
