Flammable liquid fuels are widely used in civilian industry and national defense industry and so on. The research on the explosion of flammable mists is an important problem in the safety science. Due to its many variables involved in the generation of mists, and impact on the explosion process, it is more complexity to the research of the explosion. In this paper, for the purpose to reveal the generation of mists and explosion process on fuels, the new methods for the generation of mists and mists multivariate measurement were established. A 20 L spherical experiment system for the generation of mists and explosion were set up, and then to carry out the experimental study on the explosion limits and the explosion development process on flammable mists. The main innovations are as follows:Based on the theory of multiphase flow and atomization principle, we proposed secondary pulsation atomization method, and achieve the effect of a twice impulsive spray by an aerodynamic force. It promotes the formation of a liquid film, and further breaks into fine droplets. The secondary pulsation atomization methods show the formation of a large spray opening angle, and ultimately transient match with the spatial structure of 20 L spherical explosion vessel. The experiment methods for the measurement of multivariate mists were set up. It included: the basic theory and experimental methods on same particle size(SMD) and different concentrations of mists, the measurement methods of gas-phase and liquid-phase concentrations on mists, the measurement methods of uniformity on mists, respectively. A 20 L spherical experiment system for the generation of mists and explosion were set up, and it implements transient measurement of the parameters on particle size, concentration, explosion pressure and temperature, flame propagation, turbulence intensity.In a 20 L spherical experiment system, the explosive limits of DEE and n-pentane mists on different particle size(SMD), ignition energy were obtained. The lower explosive limits(LELs) of five kinds of flammable mists on some SMD were analyzed. And the law of flammable mists on the explosive limits was revealed. Furthermore, the explosion parameters and flame propagation characteristics of DEE and n-pentane mists were carried out. It included: peak over-pressures, temperature peaks, the maximum rates of pressure rise and the maximum rate of temperature rises. The flame propagation delay time and the flame propagation process also were obtained. And through the analysis and calculation, the maximum effective burning velocities of DEE mists were obtained under the condition of different particle sizes, so, the law of flammable mists on the development process of the explosion was revealed.In this paper, the experiment system for the generation of mists and explosion was set up, and the law of flammable mists on the explosive limits, and the development process of the explosion were revealed. For the prevention and control of flammable liquid fuels on mist’s explosion has been guiding significance, importantly. At the same time, it enriches the theory on the formation of mists and explosion for flammable liquid fuels.
