There are four difficult problems in stability analysis of loess slopes:①Non-linearconstitutive model of the loess;②Uncertainty of the soil property parameters and thenon-linear essential characteristics of loess slope;③the fracture mechanism of loess slope;④the theories and methods of stability analysis of loess slope. Based on this,the newbreakthroughs of the theories and methods of analysis of loess slope are expected.Paper at the conclusion of the previous research results and practical survey data (byloess slope geological distribution, geological structure, slump, landslide, instability, etc),and on the basis of outdoor and indoor tests, combined with engineering practice, and byloess slope and the loess geologic framework features and statistical data as the foundation,many kinds of research methods, as engineering geological analogy method, numericalanalysis and physical simulation, and so on, are used to know the loess local parameteruncertainty and nonlinear characteristics, the catastrophe theory as the theoretical basis,researches around the loess slope stability are done, and based on the theory and method ofthe loess slope stability are established, the main research results are as follows:①Base on the study of the loess microstructure characteristics, and referencesnonlinear elastoplastic model and the catastrophe theory, acquires loess structure model andnonlinear constitutive equations based on the mutation theory, and focus on the analysis ofthe influence from water to loess structure function;②Based on the catastrophe theory, analyze and study of the state variables of the slopestability and control variables and their dialectical unity, establishes the loess slope stabilityanalysis mutation model and the influence on rainfall to the loess slope.③With the constitutive equation of the catastrophe theory and catastrophic model ofloess slope, as slope failure criterion by stress strain of the catastrophe standard, establishesnumerical calculation model of the loess slope instability, the calculation results reveal thestress field distribution features of the loess slope and mechanical mechanism of slopeinstability and its dynamic evolution process;④Through the centrifugal model test, the loess slope stability features and deformationfailure process are revealed, the feasibility and the scientific of the loess structure and theloess slope based on the theory of catastrophe model are verified. In short, the catastrophe theory is introduced to loess constitutive relation and loessslope stability analysis, which can consider the loess engineering geological division andgeological structure model, and reflect geological structure and the influence fromexcavation to the slope stability, and reveal the nonlinear essential characteristics of loessmicrostructure and its constitutive relationship and the mechanical system and its evolutionprocess of the loess slope, provides new theoretical basis and technical support for the loessslope engineering.
