The study of scale is an old and new problem, from Vitrurius in the book Onarchitecture, many scholars have discussed them such as Alberti, camilo sitte andYoshinobu Ashihara etc. Between them,Yoshinobu Ashihara’s research about theproportion of street width tobuilding height is always used to define the street, however their object of study is traditional city, with the development of the times, thetheory has some limitations. The Paper explores the factors and quantitative researchon the spatial scale at human which could be used to provide an effective means toassure human scale in the urban design of China. In the theoretical exploration part, the paper indicators the relationship betweenthe human perception and street-scale object on the research eight typical streets ofShanghai by using the mathematical analysis of SPSS software and semanticdifferential method.Studies have shown that in the object scale factor affectingpeople’s perception in the streets, the street absolute scale is definitely the greatestinfluence factor, followed by near-line Ratio and street tortuosity the next, the ratio ofthe number of intersection to length the least. Street perception of continuity and thecenter is more complex, which can not be explained by an object of the surveyselected. There are overlapping influence between the objective index and theperception. Besides, perception expecteded to relate with the specific objectiveindexes and the actual amount are not completely consistent. Street sense of enclosureis not relevant the expected the proportion of street width tobuilding height, but isassociated with the absolute scale. Subsequently the paper adopted psychologicalindicators of the amount of data objects and the psychological perception of streetspace for regression analysis to get critical point.Based on the above research, the paper firstly research on the absolute scaleaffected enclosure of the streets, from psychological scales, road traffic, block use, visual perception, foreign experience, and several other factors affecting factors toPush down the appropriate indicatorsof streets absolute scale. Aftering getting theappropriate street absolute scale, through the analysis of human sight to get the streetrelative scale, then obtain Street building height by the derivation, and put forwardthree approaches from the space at human perspective when the height exceed the maximum. Subsequently, in order to provide physical basisfor creating suitable streetscale, this article puts forward two effective strategies from external and internalaspects and proposed ideal model block. Then the paper discussed on the "continuous form " of street.Through Westerncities sampled and found blocks texture has a great influence on the spatial continuity, spatial neighbor "continuous form " is not just a single factors, not only block"building density" effect, but also by block "stickers line rate "effect. Firstly analysis"street building density"affecting the continuity of the street, through74foreign500×500m core blocks mathematical statistics and analysis, the building density islow in the current planning and management regulations, and to propose blocksshould ensure "appropriate building density", improve land to50%building densityindex recommendations. Near-line Ratio subsequently posted to analyze, through theShanghai, Tianjin sample surveys and sampling and analysis of domestic andinternational cases and found that in Western cities traditional blocks near-line Ratiois better, while China new urban blocks index is low, from the objective value theory, found that70%is the critical indicators, continuity and enclose is stronger above thisdata. The “street absolute scale and relative scale” with blocks “Near-line Ratio andbuilding density” quantitative indicators are used in urban design guidelines, andproposed indicatorsfrom the perspective of the block and space at human, finallyproposed design strategy ensuring suitability human scale in urban design.
