Flux Switching Permanent Magnet Linear Machine (FSPMLM) is a type of machine with PM in its primary. It is economic especially for long distance movements. In this paper the research developments, the working characteristics and the structure with less PM of FSPM are respectively introduced firstly, with the main forcus on the structure characteristics and research developments. Then the following novel jobs are done.(1) The influences and design principles of stator-mover pole combination on FSPM output characteristics are analyzed. The winding coefficients are also discussed, with main focuses on the pole coefficients. Then the phase coils connections are analyzed.(2) The FSPMLM of 1kN output thrust force is designed for pressing equipment application.The discussion on FSPMLM advantages and the key parameters for its design are investigated, with main focus on topics that other paper has never discussed e.g. the selection of PM structure parementers.(3) A novel multitooth FSPMLM is showed. Its end structure and structure parameters are investigated. The height of primary armature and PM are analyzed. After that the influences of gap values on optimum structure parameters are also computed. The prototype and the test platform are realized. The actual working data are tested and the comparisons of data validated design analyses and computations.(4)The functions of skew pole (skew tooth) are analysed, and the principles for the selection of skew angle is discussed. The analysing method for skewing model with two-dimensional FEM method is introduced, with which the skewing coefficients with different step numbers and skewing angles are computed.The step skew method is applied to FSPMLM. The result shows that the direct application of this method on FSPMLM is not satisfying for the improvement of thrust characteristics owing to the rapid reduction of effective output mean thrust force.
