Being a prime problem of the urban disease, traffic congestion causes individuals and the society to waste tremendous time, consume extra fuels, release excessive greenhouse emissions, hamper emergency rescues, and bring many other negative political, economic, and environmental impacts. The utilization of public transit is a potential cure for the traffic congestion. As one of the transit priority methods, researches on bus lanes become hot topics and nodus. This dissertation proposed a car bus mixed dynamic traffic assignment method, then focused on the intermittent bus lane network design problem.First, we studied on the fundamental theory of bus lane network design problem. We built the exclusive bus lane network design bi-level model based on the deterministic user equilibrium and stochastic user equilibrium rules. Of the bi-level structure, the upper-level problem determined bus lines over prespecified bus stops and allocated exclusive bus lanes on the links covered by bus lines, while the lower-level problem specified the network flows in the mixed traffic and transit network using deteministic user equlibrium and stochastic user euqilibrium traffic and transit assignment method. A heuristic algorithm was adopted which works in such an iterative manner of conducting bus line design, transit assignment, bus lane allocation and traffic assignment. The numerical results of Sioux Falls network indicated that the heuristic algorithm can solve the problem effictively and the optimal solution show that the exclusive bus lane setting can highly improve the system behavior. Then, we proposed two models called Shared-BUS-CTM and Independent-BUSCTM separately that belong to car bus mixed dynamic traffic assignment(DTA) methods. The Shared-BUS-CTM could lead to the replication of moving bottlenecks caused by buses in the mixed system. The formulated variant of CTM was utlised to determine a system optimal assignment that minimizes the total passenger travel time across cars and buses. We modify the traditional CTM model using methods from the lagged cell transmission model to recognize speed differentials between the free flow speed of buses and cars. The road capacity was changed with the moving bottleneck theory. The Independent-BUS-CTM made sure that cars and buses have their own capacity. The solw bus speed was simulated by the speed ratio reduction of bus flow. The numerical results show that the models can describe the flow change of the mixed system. The sensitivity analysis show that bus passenger demand, passenger occupancy of bus and bus free flow speeds are the key parameters that influence the system performance.Based on the Independent-BUS-CTM, we integrated the bus lanes setting budget constraint and the intermittent bus lanes opening variable, and bui lt the intermittent bus lane dynamic setting model. To compare the intermittent bus lane setting with dedicated bus lane setting, we then proposed the dedicated bus lane static setting model. The numerical results show that intermittent bus lane is better than dedicated bus lane. Fixed with the high demand or low demand, intermittent bus lane could also cooperate the bus lane setting with the demand changing. At last, based on part of the Harbin road network, the numerical study and case study were conducted using all the proposed model of this dissertation. The results show that Shared-BUS-CTM and Independent-BUS-CTM could effectively predict the flow propagation of the car bus mixed traffic and the vehicles number in the cells. The DTA-based bus lane network design model could give suggestions about the best solution of exclusive bus lane setting and intermittent bus lane seting strategies, and advices about the intermittent bus lane setting plan when the demand was consist of high demand or low demand.Compared with the exclusive bus lane network design problem that is researched before, this dissertation fisrtly attempt to build the mixed dynamic assignment model, and study the intermittent bus lane network deisgn problem based on this model. The research results can guide the exclusive bus lane setting and intermittent bus lane setting in the urban road network system, encourage the transformation from private cars to buses, reduce the traffic congestion, decrease the system travel time and improve the system efficiency.
